I suspect afghan went for more because of the knitted quilts.

Amen to that!

The advance word on this auction was they expects to do shy of $300k, but if one of the biggies had sold that easily would have tipped the chart.

There needs to be more liquidity in all facets of the market. If domainers, particularly those at the higher end weren't holding for the biggest possible payout we'd see a lot more action. If I buy a name today at Snapnames for $100 and get an offer next month for $1000 - why would I not consider it? Yes, it's certainly possible that five years from now I'll get a much bigger offer, but it's still a great ROI. I don't need to make thousands on every transaction. I have a few names that I will hold for the *long* term, but otherwise I'll listen to all offers and accept the reasonable ones gladly.

Slightly related note: The thing about the GeoExpo that really impressed me was how willing Geo Domainers are to help, really help, each other. Sharing of secrets and best practices and even what they paid for names. And a real willingness to work together when the opportunity presents itself.

The domain market is in recession like the rest of the economy, can't expect high prices in this sort of market.

I think the Geo and New Tech names are where it's at.. (and don't forget these are especially suited to .info)

Afghan rugs are regaining popularity and they are rather expensive. Maybe someone wanted it for that reason? :)

Cuba isn't exactly the center of World trade and I'll pass on the Brazilian wax. :)

According to Seafood Watch, the Patagonian toothfish incorrectly called Chilean sea bass is currently on the list of fish that American consumers who are sustainability-minded should avoid. Major quantities of toothfish are illegally caught annually. Australian Customs vessels have pursued illegal toothfishing ships up to 6100 kilometres at times.
