Hello,

I am looking to start a website targeting International and Indian consumers, They can buy our product online, I am confused on what domain i should choose as i have both International Audience and Indian Surfers.

Should i go for .in or .com name ?? I am getting a very good name in .in extension but i am worried that i will not get overseas customers if i have .in domain.

Pls guide me on the same.

Thanks to all in advance.

Hi, if you're looking at targeting international customers to your service I would suggest going with a .com. .com is the international domain!

Are both names (.com/.in) exactly the same?

Are they keyword based or brand?

Also, do .com domain names not appeal to Indian surfers (ie. do Indian surfers prefer to visit a .in site over .com or something)?

If you are targeting surfers outside of India - then having just a .in may not be the best solution imo. When I see a .in site in Google (which is a rare occurance when using google.co.uk/.com) I assume it will have Indian products/content (ie. available to India). Not sure if others have the same mindset, but I would assume so.

Thanks for your inputs too rico, well my products are based in Indian and you can say its Indian Specialty but they are of equal demand in International market too and the names which i am confused are a semi-keyword name i.e. not exact keyword..

Use both. Two separate sites.

I agree with @RicoShay, if you're looking to target a global market I would definitely go with a .com. When I come across .in sites I always think the content will be in some other language then English. Although with some rare exceptions you come across alot of apps using the .in domain although I think this is just a novelty :]

BTW: Well put RicoShay rep!

.com definitely. The natural instinct of the mass is to type in productname.com or brand.com
This is the case in india as well.
