Logo contest, $20/$10/$5 prizes

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a nice logo for my TeamCharts.com website. It contains graphs of NFL [National Football League] standings, updated throughout the season. (Look at the current site with Firefox; it's not working with IE right now, and in any case, it's horribly ugly! :) )

I just had someone from another forum design a new homepage, which I haven't yet posted. I like some aspects of it, but I really want a strong logo to place on it. (And BTW, I'm weak in editing HTML pages, so after the logo contest is done, I may want to pay someone a bit to help me actually assemble the site.)

CONTEST INFORMATION
1. The logo should contain TeamCharts.com.
2. It should clearly be related to [American] football.
3. Football is a tough sport, so it should be a "tough" logo with a lot of impact (strong typeface, strong contrasts, no pastel colors, etc.).
4. Perhaps football-field green should be a main color in it. Contrasting colors could be white and/or yellow (but that's just a suggestion, I'm open to others.)
5. (ADDED) It could contain a graphical element that suggests the site is about graphs. (Again, this is not absolutely necessary.)

I will award $20 to the winner, $10 for second place, and $5 for third (since it seems cold to leave all but one person empty-handed).

I'd like to finish the contest by this Wednesday night (Sept. 6), so I have time to get the site working by this weekend. But I haven't run a contest like this before ... I hope that's enough time to get good entries and let the creators revise them!

Thanks in advance for your work on this.

Cheers,
Dave

Yeah, I probably should know the answer to that, shouldn't I? (Sorry to be so ignorant about page design.)

If the one you made is 660x205, I imagine the one I'll want for the main page header should be roughly 600x150(?). Whatever logo I choose will be resizable, right? - so that I can use much smaller versions on other parts of the site.

Feedback: You made a good start, and I like the general design. A few suggestions:
1. A bit darker green would be good.
2. I'd like to see the T and C of TeamCharts stand out a bit more - size, color, something.
3. The light green scribble behind the images doesn't do much for me; I'm kind of a minimalist. The logo should have impact - BOOM! - like a ball-carrier being crunched by a linebacker, if you know what I mean. That means sharp contrasts ... which the scribble isn't.

Thanks a lot for your entry - I'm looking forward to seeing a revised version!

Regards,
Dave

Jaynesh - thanks for your entry.

My two main suggestions would be:
1. The football shouldn't be so much larger than the type. (I'm thinking that the type will be the main element of the logo, with graphics playing a supporting role.)
2. I want a tough typeface - the one you used looks like a child's, and NFL football is a game played by brutal men! :)

I hope these suggestions are helpful. Will be glad to see a revised version.

Regards,
Dave

Jaynesh - The football is a better size now, thanks. The text still isn't as strong as I'd like; the green in "Team" is a weak shade, and using outlines for the letters doesn't give me that feeling of power that I'm looking for. I'd also like the T and C of "TeamCharts" to really stand out somehow (size, color, whatever).

Everybody - I need go to to work for a few hours (sigh), but will gladly offer more feedback and/or answer questions when I return.

Thanks,
Dave

thx for the feed back, the light green scribble is a water mark, so it will be gone in the orignal. Any good logo maker (not saying im all that great) uses Vector, i.e. Not PhotoShop. Vector is resizeable, and you can change color and fonts, and anything you want really.

I will post a revision after school :D

Jaynesh - I'm liking much better the one with the football in .COM. Please make the EAM the same color as the L. I'm not sure about the letters going up and down ... it does seem like the result of a football pile-up, but since what I'm "selling" are graphs, I wonder whether things should move in straighter lines in the logo too.

DtRaX - Two comments: 1. It's a cool logo; 2. It isn't close to what I'm looking for! Medium blue and orange don't say "football" to me; I'm looking for a powerful logo but not a chaotic one; and somehow the sad football player doesn't grab me. I bet you could modify this logo and use it for some other purpose, for which it would be very well suited! But thanks for entering.

HasRob - That's very hard to read! I'd like something that stands out, that permanently imprints "TeamCharts.com" on people's memories. They shouldn't have to look too closely or think too hard; they're football fans, after all! :)

Josephine - Nice! I like the top one better; the letters in the bottom one are too askew. In the top one, could you think of a way to make the T and C in TeamCharts stand out more? (Maybe just enlarge them?)

Thanks again to all who are entering! I'll keep supplying feedback as often as I can, and I'll make my final decisions tomorrow evening. (Remember: 3 cash prizes! I'm also thinking of a consolation prize for other entrants - maybe you could pick a domain or two from my .info list. :) )

Cheers,
Dave

In the image you posted at 9:11 this morning, the T is dark green, and the EAM is medium/light green. I would rather have them all be dark green, please. (Sorry, I wrote L in my last message when I should have written T.)

Thanks for submitting this. It looks kind of similar to Josephine's (which I like!). I wonder if it would seem less lively if each letter was just one color instead of two? (I'd like to use smaller versions of the logo, too, and in this case I think the color differences would be lost in a small image.)

Aside from that, the only suggestion that comes to mind is to use a different football. Real footballs aren't that color; they're more purely brown, less orange-y. But the overall effect is still pretty good; maybe it would be even better with a realer football.

Thanks again,
Dave

Heres another shot at it. My first one is easier read at a larger size. Also, it would be better to design a logo knowing what the new homepage looks like. This one here that will be attached is going off your current home page. Anyway, enjoy :)
