Logo contest, $20/$10/$5 prizes

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a nice logo for my TeamCharts.com website. It contains graphs of NFL [National Football League] standings, updated throughout the season. (Look at the current site with Firefox; it's not working with IE right now, and in any case, it's horribly ugly! )

I just had someone from another forum design a new homepage, which I haven't yet posted. I like some aspects of it, but I really want a strong logo to place on it. (And BTW, I'm weak in editing HTML pages, so after the logo contest is done, I may want to pay someone a bit to help me actually assemble the site.)

CONTEST INFORMATION
1. The logo should contain TeamCharts.com.
2. It should clearly be related to [American] football.
3. Football is a tough sport, so it should be a "tough" logo with a lot of impact (strong typeface, strong contrasts, no pastel colors, etc.).
4. Perhaps football-field green should be a main color in it. Contrasting colors could be white and/or yellow (but that's just a suggestion, I'm open to others.)
5. (ADDED) It could contain a graphical element that suggests the site is about graphs. (Again, this is not absolutely necessary.)

I will award $20 to the winner, $10 for second place, and $5 for third (since it seems cold to leave all but one person empty-handed).

I'd like to finish the contest by this Wednesday night (Sept. 6), so I have time to get the site working by this weekend. But I haven't run a contest like this before ... I hope that's enough time to get good entries and let the creators revise them!

fearthefox - Wow! You worked a lot of nice elements into the logo - football, football field, graph line. It's definitely a contender. Would it be easy for you to revise it with a slightly less stylized font? (For example, the A looks a little odd to me, and the R being open instead of closed also makes the eye hesitate for a moment. I'd like the lettering to be powerful and simple - especially with such a "busy" graphic design - so that it jumps right into the viewer's brain at first glance.) Great potential here!

HasRob - Like it much better than the first one. Good green/grassy background, suggesting the football field. The font is nicely readable & the color gives it great contrast, but it lacks the kind of power I'm looking for. Can you switch it for something bolder, maybe all caps (with the T & C larger than the rest)? Also, maybe some little element that suggests a graph ... but that's not absolutely necessary, up to you.

jonainmi - Also an improvement - you used my suggestions well. It is simple and powerful. It's so simple, in fact, that I wonder if you could add one more element. Maybe something yellow for a good contrast ... maybe an element that suggests a graph. This is already one of my favorite designs; I'm just looking for that extra little something.

josephine - Yours is also among the leaders. I looked at it at a reduced size, and the only things that bother me are the small bits that go up at the right upper edge of the T's and E. Is there another font that is similar to this one but doesn't have those? They just confuse the eye (at least, my eye) for a split second, and I'm trying to make everything simple rather than fancy. (Also, I'm glad you made the T and C bigger, but I'd like to see them even bigger than that [or maybe make the other letters a little smaller, just so the T and C stand out even more].)

You guys are doing awesome work! I wish I had about ten websites that needed logos, so I could use something from each of you.

josephine - I like the last two of yours better than the others - the very last one is best. Simple (& easy to read) but powerful. Not sure what other suggestions I could make at this point!

DtRaX - again, I'm afraid that your design just doesn't appeal to me, in its color or composition. Sorry ... but stick around for the consolation prizes at the end! (Look at other designs, and my feedback about them, for a better idea of what I've been hoping to see.)

ami - Gosh! I can see why you list yourself as "Professional Designer." That's an awesome logo for the page header. Would it be easy for you to also prepare a simpler version to be used in other areas of the site, that doesn't have the picture of the football players or the words "Enjoy the NFL Standings Here"?

As always, thanks to all of you. I have zero artistic talent, so I'm impressed by people who have a lot!

I'll make my final choices tonight, probably about 9:00 eastern U.S. time. Will be in and out until then, but will try to provide more feedback to anyone who posts something new or revised.

jackieh1791 - Thanks for jumping in. (For some reason, I can't see your image links in your original posting, though they appeared when I quoted your post to answer it.)

I'm not sure whether you're submitting two designs, or whether the first one is just a component of the second. The first one by itself does not have much impact - the lettering is sort of generic, and nothing really pops out. In the second one, the background is a nice image; two footballs might be one too many, though. The lettering is a little lost in this busy image.

Since I'll be making my final decisions within the next short while, I don't think there's really time for you to make revisions ... but thanks for entering, and I will put you on my consolation prize list!

CONTEST RESULTS

OK, I promised you the contest would end tonight, so here are the results.

There are a few things that I am very good at. There are many more things that I am terrible at.

Two areas in which I am terrible:

1. Web design.
2. Making decisions.

Since I can't make decisions, I need to announce two ties!

1st Place goes to both ami and fearthefox. Two wonderful designs - I just can't reject either one! I'm still not sure which logo I will use, but I want to keep my options open ... so instead of $20 for first and $10 for second, I am awarding $20 to each of you.
