I have just read the following article in this months New Scientist:

Watch your favourite programmes wherever you are in the world, by connecting a laptop PC to your TV tuner at home via the internet
Worried about missing the climax of Big Brother when you go abroad on holiday? Then you'll like a system unveiled last week that allows you to watch your favourite television programmes wherever you are in the world. Called Locationfree, it uses the internet to connect a laptop PC to your TV tuner back home.

At the heart of Locationfree, which Sony is launching this month in Japan and the US, is a set-top box the size of a paperback book, which you install at home. The box converts the signal from the TV tuner or satellite receiver into a compressed data stream, encrypts it and sends it over the internet via an ordinary broadband link.

Software on your laptop connects to the set-top box's home page on the web, allowing you to download whatever programme is running at home, which you can watch live or record on the laptop's hard ...

Here is a link to a nice flash trailer from sony which I found: http://12.155.226.67/flash.html

The best news of all (fantastic imo) is that.... yes, sony has registered LocationFree.TV (whois here), and the 'cream on the cake' so to speak for us .TVers is that Sony have not bothered with any of the other 'top' extensions. They are all owned but not by sony and I am sure if sony were bothered they would have bought them up before releasing such a big product imo.

So in a nut shell, Sony are launching this fantastic technology now and appear to be going to market against the .TV extension :) (2006 is going to be a good year for the .TV me thinks :] )

Thanks for this wonderful news Mike.

I am pretty sure 2006 will see many more .tv sites including the ones I am developing :hehe:

I believe 2005 and 2006 are like 1995 and 1996 for .com era. In one or two years the heat will rise and naysayers will fall.

Good luck, .tvers,

Gamehouse

Thanks Mike for the post.

Gamehouse don't ever worry about the naysayers, either clueless, agenda driven or jealous most times all three.
