New Member Disclaimer: Four letter domain names are a relatively new investment category that is only beginning to gain traction in Dotcom. This domaining sector offers potentially larger returns than traditional revenue or traffic based domain names, however with this investment opportunity comes extravagant risk.

It was only a matter of time... First King Com. Then .CN fell. And now... I present to you LLLL.net :!:

This thread is designed to elicit discussion about LLLL.nets. You're encouraged to post anything you feel is relevant to LLLL.nets in this thread. This includes sales information, new regs, ...

I also expect the buyout to happen during 2009, but honestly, if 1 or 2 big players join in, it's not impossible for it to happen in 2008.

**Yes, I know it's my wish, but it's also a possibility... ;)**

It will happen in late 2009 or early 2010, just my guess.

What about the "after the buyout?"

I strongly believe we'll be somewhere near this:

Quad Premiums - +$80
Trip Premiums - +$30
Others - +$10

I can't really comment on CVCV, VCVC, Pronounceables and other collectibles, as those values depend more on end-user sales than these. :)

I honestly think it will take place this year.

Your certainly right. By the time 4L.net's get bought out, LLLL.com's may even be at $1K minimum wholesale value.
I don't see triple premiums being as high as $30 as it's highly unlikely, that a triple premium 4L.com would be at $300.

It's not always right to apply the ten-percent law but at least in this case it holds true.

I personally see loads of value in AAAB, AABB or ABAB types. They may reach $200 before this year ends.

The beauty of speculation is that we all have our views/thoughts/expectations. As we are true believers in this market and support the market we are actually the market makers.

Some may say that we are simply like collectors trading trinkets between ourselves. The truth is that many people move in and out of the domain business. Those that get in 6 months or next year will only know what the current value of a domain. Therefore if all quad premium 4L.net's are going for $50 they will feel comfortable with paying $50 for the domain. Then hopefully there will be upward pressure on the market.

Is this all this market relies on? New domainers entering in?

Alex, valid point raised there.
I believe that the market does rely on new domainers entering in but only to a certain extent.
End-User demand fuels speculation and that might be the prime reason for LLLL.net's getting regged quickly.

5 Years from now there'll be more people wanting a LLLL.net than the total possible combinations available. So, we major holders (100 domains +) have a sureshot advantage.

Basically, all I'm trying to do right now is sell off my triple premiums and buying pronounceable quads as they are the ones that have a shining future.

New domainers means a need for more domain names. LLLL.coms only go so far. When the need exceeds the amount of available .coms, people will seek the .net versions instead.

I'm hoping to invest 3 grand into the LLLL.nets, then sell them off steadily over the course of time to pay off the registration fees. I will also seek end user possibilities.

All I am trying to say, is never rely on a single source. I don't say it might not pay off, probably it will, but always take into consideration the risks involved.

I take into consideration the risk. I sell and reg at the same time, I am not really into hording domains forever.

I try and stay under 100 if possible.

Agree.

Currently I split my domains investments into the following areas:
- LLLL.net (360);
- L-LL/LL-L.com (400);
- LLLL.com (200) (entered too late in the market, had to purchase half of them after the buyout at high prices :( ),
- 5N.com (35),
- all other (CCC.net, IDN.com, different ccTDL with acronyms and keywords, etc: approx. 100)

How do you split your domain investment?

I believe in not putting all my eggs in one basket and it has worked quite nicely for me. At the moment this is how my portfolio is split up:

Brandable/Phrases .com = 265 domains
Regional/Geographic .com = 110 domains
LLLL.com = 810 domains
LLLL.net = 1100 domains
L-L-L.com = 730 domains
5 Letter .com = 540 domains
Other = 400 domains

However I have just spent $30,000 in the past week on a swag of quad premium LLLL.com's so will be selling off some of my lesser names to top up the bank balance again :)

Of course not. I was speaking on the point of natural support for domains. We would all love to sell to end users but that is unrealistic. One of the things that supports the market is semi-liquidity that domainers give to the market.

LOL, excellent point raised there. Some people over at DP are ruining the market by trying to push prices sky-high before the market is ready. Some time ago, people began demanding $100 for their oh-so average 4L.com's as they wanted the prices to skyrocket but all that happened was s small correction.

investment

when most people see a good invetment they jump on board.. llll.nets look like a great investment seeing as you can't find a llll.com for $40.00 the ccc.nets sway me the other way on this one.. ccc.coms are minimal of $200.00 with the 10 percent rule they should be at $20 there selling for around 15 on ebay all day.. this makes me really skeptical of llll.nets, the great domains may be tooken but who plans on regging the worst llll.nets at 6.00 if there only suppost to be worth 4.50 or 10 percent of llll.coms? will there ever really be a buy out or have people thrown 6.00 a domain in the trash? ccc.nets are still slightly above a reg fee? what makes everyone think llll.nets will be different with the 200k plus left?
