The PM says looking for offers min 2-3k. HA! Sorry, but below reseller pricing? Come on now.... first tip off. DING! Strike #1

So, what do I do? Offer 2k. Ok, deal. DING! Strike #2

I Check the whois - Private! DING Strike #3

Check Member - Has 1 Post. DING Strike #4

Wont change Nameserers. DING Strike #5

Wont use mainstream escrow services. DING Strike #6

He wants to communicate via Messenger. So I login and proceed to have the following convo:

Justin Allen: I hear yah
Justin Allen: Honestly - 3k is over budget
Justin Allen: Im more than happy to pay you at 2k and initiate escrow tonight if u wanted.
Justin Allen: If you want more, I may be able to get a little
Justin Allen: but im still looking at closer to 2 then 3
regverx98: ok so 2k
Justin Allen: Yah
regverx98: do you have a getafreelancer.com acc?
Justin Allen: Yes i do
Justin Allen: but the only way im paying is through escrow.com
Justin Allen: or Sedo's escrow if youd prefer
regverx98: escrow dont work in romania, and sedo take 10+days for me, we can do it over gaf 30% now and 70% after you have it
Justin Allen: Im sorry then - no deal can be reached.
Justin Allen: I will not put my money at risk
Justin Allen: sounds like a scam
regverx98: scam just because I escrow dont alow romania? LOL
Justin Allen: are you serious about making this transaction work?
regverx98: I did the last sale over western union pal , it ab romani not ab me scammer
regverx98: what do you mean if I am serious?
Justin Allen: Your a first time poster on NamePros - first issue
Justin Allen: what is ur name?
regverx98: martin popescu, why?
Justin Allen: when did u acquire this domain name
Justin Allen: ?
Justin Allen: and why do u have privacy on it?
regverx98: i said 2000, cose I register all domains with privacy
Justin Allen: Just for verification - will you change the nameservers of the domain name?
regverx98: pall common, we are talking about 30% advance this mean $600, i waste my time here
Justin Allen: Since i cannot verify via whois
Justin Allen: I need you to direct the Nameservers to prove you have control of the domain name
Justin Allen: Without being able to do this, you have no bargaining power.
regverx98: when you decide to pay 3k contact me via pm and i will change the dns
Justin Allen: Hey
Justin Allen: you have a deal
Justin Allen: and without confirmation, no one will buy this domain name
Justin Allen: and I will post this on NamePros when we finnish because i believe you are a scammer
regverx98: hey pal I said I will confirm it for you
regverx98: when you decide to pay 3k
Justin Allen: I dont think you can.
Justin Allen: If you really wanted to close the deal, you would go ahead and do it
Justin Allen: You dont have to do it for more than an hour
Justin Allen: I just need to see it pointed somewhere else to prove you have control
regverx98: i dont want cose the price is very low anyway
regverx98: so I am not in a rush to sell it
Justin Allen: Ok
Justin Allen: i'll tell you what
Justin Allen: I'll give you 3k if you can change the nameservers
Justin Allen: ?
regverx98: ok done, let me talk with my partner and will contact you in 24 hours, please check the dns now so you can confirm it will be changed
Justin Allen: Your partener?
Justin Allen: So, you dont have control of the domain name?
Justin Allen: You are a scammer - and this post will be made public on NamePros and DNF
Justin Allen: I will not allow you to easily trick any domainers into this scam
regverx98: lol, get lost. i thought you are serious
Justin Allen: I am
Justin Allen: Clearly you are not.
Justin Allen: and everything youve said and done at this point is unproveable
Justin Allen: I highly doubt you will change the DNS on the domain
regverx98: if you call me a scammer after 5 min of conversation this mean your not. have a nice day, bye
Justin Allen: and I am more than willing to pay at the price negotiated if this were a true deal
Justin Allen: Have a good evening - Dont try this on NamePros again.
regverx98: hey pal are you stupid? with gaf I have a name and an address, how can anyone be so stupid to sell over gaf?
Justin Allen: You dont even have access to the domain name
Justin Allen: Why on earth would I buy it from you?
Justin Allen: Lets use Sedo's escrow service then.

no response..... Will Update with more Information.

This is a perfect situation for a domain buyer - but lets be honest - if its too good to be true - IT IS! Question everything and everyone all the time. Never trust people on here, especially without knowing them or having previous communications. Let everyone be warned, Scammer is using BMU.com domain name (because its private) and offering a fantastic, unbelieveable price. I hope no one gets suckered in by this guy!

Regards,
Justin

After no response - I ended the conversation with the following:

Justin Allen: I have posted our conversation on NamePros with a warning. I dont believe you will be able to use this domain name for your scam any further.
Justin Allen: http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?p=1718734#post1718734
Justin Allen: Feel free to respond in the public forum if you are in fact honest - Im sure this domain will garner a much better offer than I have given you.

Then a response:

regverx98: LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
regverx98: [laughing]
Justin Allen: =)
regverx98: I already told you are stupid
Justin Allen: Feel free to respond in the public forum
Justin Allen: Go ahead
Justin Allen: prove me wrong.
regverx98: can you please post the same post on DNF, digitalpoint, and other domain name forums?
regverx98: just to make sure people is aware?
regverx98: [laughing]
Justin Allen: I will.
regverx98: go ahead cose already die from laughing
Justin Allen: Care to respond in the forum?
regverx98: I have other things to do but I really enjoy what you do
Justin Allen: Of course you do
Justin Allen: Back to the scam board.
regverx98: i like how you take your comunity role. but pls post the same on those other forums
regverx98: [laughing]
Justin Allen: Just making sure that everyone is aware - and you dont actually catch a new Domainer with your scam.
regverx98: its not a scam i repeat i already said, how can anyone use gaf for scam? since you have a name there?
regverx98: or maybe you know alot ab scam cose you was scamming gaf before or what? LOL
Justin Allen: I use GAF for Development only
Justin Allen: And I get my product before I pay
Justin Allen: I recommend responding in the forum - If you can prove you are the owner of the domain name and I am mistaken - I will gladly remove my posting.
regverx98: I dont care ab your posting, happy posting
regverx98: anyway its late here, really I need to sleep, see ya later
Justin Allen: I know you dont care - the reason you dont care is because you'll simply find another domain name to pretend you own
Justin Allen: And attempt to scam someone else.

At this point, I logged off.

Hi domainspade, i face the same problem but with another domain. This guy easily accepted my offer and attempt to ask me to send him money first which i refuse and suggested Escrow.com but he insist on using Sedo Escrow. Will anything goes wrong with my money if i paid via Sedo Escrow? Does the buyer required to pay any fee using Sedo Escrow?

If you use Sedo Escrow service and you have transferred the funds to Sedo, the domain will be transferred to Sedos transfer account, when Sedo has control of the domain they will release the funds to the seller. And you will get the domain from Sedo.

Regarding fees, you should contact Sedo directly about this, this can be either split 50/50 between seller and buyer or only one party will be responsible for the fees.

Your situation sounds genuine to me Kahsoon.

Cheers Justin.

What a Joker that guy is !!!

Having said that I am sure some newbies would fall into the trap, just from sheer inexperience.
Hopefully this will warn any newbie to be constantly on his/her guard and as Justin said "If it sounds too good to be true, it is"

Thanks Again for posting this Justin

Yah. I was pretty astounded by this guy. And his attempt to argue with me about him being a scammer was the more rediculous part. I just wanted to make a it a little more difficult for him to get anyone in this scam and I think Ive done that.

Bottom line was the deal was too good to be true and I saw it from a mile away. I just know that someone new to Domaining wouldnt see all the signs.

Very Vigilant Justin- sounds like a definite scammer. Anyone selling a domain of that value would be more than happy to prove their integrity and ownership of the name. Kahsoon, I do agree with Damion that your's may well not be a sacmmer. Sedo's Escrow is a very secure transfer service, actually better than escrow.com's as Sedo takes control of both parties 'assets', whereas Escrow.com never holds the domain.

This im not positive on. I know that Escrow.com will not work in the state of Arizona due to some silly legislation. I actually use a California address for Escrow.com payments.

Escrow.com currently supports transaction from all over the world. However, there is a small list of countries that we do not support. These include Balkans, Burma (Myanmar), Cuba, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, Libya, Moldova, Nigeria, North Korea, Romania, Syria, and Zimbabwe.

That answers that.

I won't automatically think a deal too good to be true is a scam. Some just don't know better & really there is no official rule that says what goes for what. One can go by the usual prices which seems like nothing but domainers passing names around.

However in this case a seller should not balk at changing nameservers. I personally wouldn't have any problem with it as what is it really costing me? I don't think it would cost me anything but a short amount of time.

This case does smell like a scam for that point alone.

Good catch. I got suckered into a scam...this person built up trust, then offered me a laptop for $75. I bought it :(. Going to sue his ass once I get in contact with 2checkout, the clearinghouse he used.

Bottom line? You are right. If something is too good to be true, REQUEST AN ESCROW OR PAY COD!!! ;)

I gave the "seller" every oppertunity to prove he was true. Too many holes in the story is what set me off. Most seller wouldnt use privacy, especially for a domain like that - doesnt make sense, especially if you are trying to sell. Then the fact that he cant use a standard escrow service. Then the fact they cannot change nameservers for 24 hours. The whole thing began to fall apart and unravel with every question. And his lack of defending himself on the forum, when I gave him the link - Just adds to the confirmation. I have no doubt this person was a scammer and am Happy to have unearthed him.
