Has Microsoft always had this domain tucked away or did they pay a fortune to aquire it?

It would appear that Microsoft bought it off a guy named Ross Finlayson (http://xenon.stanford.edu/~rsf/) who owned it for his 'live555.com' website.

Then they went on a rampage to register them all... now it appears that they have control over all the 'live.ext' domains.

Quite an investment.

I'm confident it was a 7-figure deal, which makes the weakness of the live.com SE even more hilarious (i truly hope, with time, it will improve..)
