Hey, who here likes to GOLF? :music:

:bingo:

I have a tee time today at 2:23 p.m. EST, and I began to wonder who among us are big-time golfers? By that, I mean folks that LIKE to hack it up regularly during the season ... not necessarily just the scratch players / pros.
I'm usually happy with a couple/few pars, an occassional birdie, and generally bogey golf (mixed in with a handful of double-boges in any given round). 8's and 9's really piss me off, as do "four putts". :o

Usually I start off awful, hit a groove and do really well for a stretch, and then tank it again toward the end (of 18 holes). Always have my eye out for the beer cart, but am a stickler for the rules, and never play a "preferred lie" or cheat in any form.
Been considering a new set of Pings and/or a Big Berthaβ„’ driver for a few years, and may just get one or both this year ... my "sticks" are pretty old.
I got hit in the chest once by some dork off another tee who didn't yell "Fore!" and I won two "closest to the pin" awards in tournaments on the 18th holes (par three's). Some guy in front of me once threw all his brand new clubs in the pond and about ten grown men went swimming for 'em. I put five in a row in the drink once (on the same fricking hole/day), and just missed a hole in one the next day (on the same freaking hole!). Crazy sport!
Share your golf stories and love here, and have a great weekend folks!

Great read CoolHost.com! If I ever get down your way or you get up my way maybe we can hack our way around the "Pines". I'm happy (sort of) with high 80's but I'm usually around the mid 90's. My best round ever was an 83. I don't get out enough (that's my excuse, anyway). Love the game though.

Yep, that's me .... "Fore!" :!: :bah:

Thanks, Scott ... little place out your way (in addition to "Digby Pines") named "Pubnico", as well. We'd have a heck of a time out there hacking away, and talking domains all the while along the way! :talk:
I'll be sure to let you know next time over your way (very possibly later this summer - and in to Yarmouth by way of sea).
Appreciates.

ive never understood the rules of golf

all this par, under par etc :s lol

:hehe:

Go play sometime ... you'll learn VERY quickly that par is really good, as well as the "math" and cool terminology. You may often find yourself "beached", as well. ;)
Good stuff! :music:

PS. Rain (actually, ominous clouds and lightning - never golf in the lightning (metal clubs)) came in suddenly and ended at only 9 holes today, solid 45 for only my second time out this year. Only one bad thing ... the college girls who drive the beer carts are still in school for another week or two, so had to BYOB. :'(
Here's to summer '04!

Those Guys "PROS" make it look so easy ... - Anyone who thinks it isn't a real sport needs to try it !

I like going to the Driving Range from time to time, but I don't get out on the course that often...

Cool: That solid 45 due to your skill or the fact that the college girls aren't there yet? :hehe:

Pubnico is always the last course to close and the first to open around these parts.

Too bad about the weather...maybe an 89 or lower was out there for ya (we'll never know)!

45 due to full concentration!

:notme:

Even if we had been able to get in the back 9 y'day (much more difficult), I would have ended up at 95 - 100, honestly. I was tired as it was after the front 9, wicked hot and humid. Blah!
Ah well, I have all summer to crank it up.
:music:

Yep, I like Pubnico ... cool little course up there. Surprised I knew about it?

Hey CH, if you ever make it over to the home of golf I will be your caddy for the day. I used to organise huge golf days for companies as part of one of my other incarnations. I can talk the game like a pro but cannot hit a ball to save myself lol - so i don't bother trying any more and just go along for the laugh, the chat and the beers.

Anyway, we have a lot of real nice courses here that I am sure you would all love to play - Gleneagles is only an hours drive from me as is Royal Troon and Dalmahoy.

And of course - the most famous of them all, St Andrews is just a left turn and a 90min drive from my front door - beautiful old town and a great day out folks.

Lets have a Namepros Golf Day.

Love to play St Andrews someday (or go over to watch the British Open even).

Dream on,

Re: "Links"!

When I was younger, I had some potential to be big in golf :)

I had a few pros stop me all over the place asking to work with me for free.

perfect swing, perfect form, always right down the middle, etc.

i stopped playing for a few years and then continued to play non competitively, and now all I can do is whack the ball right down the middle around 225-275 yards almost everytime.

I dont play enough to have good chipping or putting though, damn 4 putts ;)

I can't get my drives up

Must be a geezer thing

They go right down the middle
with a hop, skip, and a bounce

Got my letter in golf in High School
but that was 30 some years ago
:hehe:

Here's a few "Natural Laws of Golf" that I remembered, and just came across again very recently:
If you really want to get better at golf, go back and take it up at a much earlier age.

The game of golf is 90% mental, and 10% mental.

No matter how bad you're playing, it is always possible to play worse.

It's surprisingly easy to hole a 50-foot putt ... when you lie 8!

:notme:

If there is a ball in the fringe and a ball in the bunker, YOUR ball is in the bunker.

Don't buy a putter util you've had a chance to throw it.

:kickass:

My memory of golf is when my dad reluctantly went along to play golf with his college friends. It was his first ever golf game, and since he was too lazy to bring the entire set of clubs, and wasn't excited about paying someone to follow him around the course, he went ahead and did the entire 18 holes using just one club. He did better than almost all his friends, and had the best time of his life making fun of his buddies who were supposed to be regular golfers.

That was the last time he was invited to play golf. :)

I was at the driving range yesterday and was hitting the ball pretty well, so decided to try to increase my swing power.

Guess I did something wrong because I chunked the mat on my next swing and head of my driver went sailing about 40 yards. Still not sure how that happened, but it looked kinda funny.
