Hypotheticaly someone is interested in the best domain name you have.

.....here is the Letter of Interest.......
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Letter of Interest:

Mr./Mrs. xxxxxxx, I hope you don't mind me contacting you directly with this request but I/we are interested in a domain that you currently have registered, xxxxxxx .com.

If you would interested in releasing it to me/us, please let me/us know your terms at your earliest possible convenience.

Regards,

Mr. Man

You do want to sell but what would YOUR reply be or what technique has worked for you the most?

1) Ask for them to make their best offer?
2) Put the price right out there?
3) Bait them and tell them the domain name is not for sale knowing you would sell for the right price?
4) Would you negotiate? Not negotiate?
5) Other

Additional INFO:

Let's say the domain name in question has not been advertised for sale yet and the interested buyer contacted you through WhoIs.

This is a fictitious company used only for entertainment purpose.

Let's also add that you did your research on the company and found out this company is in the top 10 in it's market worldwide and has more than 50 top name distributors around the globe for their products. One of the best endusers you could wish for!

Questions.

Were we actively advertising the domain "for sale"? Did you contact us via whois?

Is the company name and information you gave real? Something that we could research?

Mr. Man ,

My name is xxxxxxx xxxxxx. I am the owner of the domain name xxxxxxx /com.

I have no plans to put this name up for sale at this time. This domain name has been the heart and soul of my business and to sell this name would be detramental to the future business goals of my company as well as all investments to date. Any compensation or offer for this domain name would have to be competitively weighed against the combined value this domain name holds within my business presently for my release of interest.

Regards,
xxxxxxx xxxxxx

Dear Mr. Man,

I request that you be a little more specific, because it seems as if you mistakenly clicked the "send" button a little too soon with an email template you forgot to fill in.

At the very least, I need to know what domain you're interested in.

Thank you,
UVW XYZ

Dear Mr XXXXXXXX, thanks for your interest in XXXXXXXX.com.

Even though this domain is complete rubbish, i have an emotional attachment to it that borders on stupidity, and I'm extremely greedy too, hence i would be unwilling to let it go for under $1,000,000.

As the US dollar is quite weak compared to my own far superior currency, the AUS dollar, I'm also going to add 10% on top. Please pay $1,100,000 ASAP via Escrow.com.

PS: And cover all Escrow fees whilst your at it.

How was that? Did i win?

Questions.

1) Were we actively advertising the domain "for sale"? 2) Did you contact us via whois?

3) Is the company name and information you gave real? 4) Something that we could research?

1) N - The domain name in question has not been advertised for sale yet.
2) Y - They contacted you through WhoIs.
3) N - This is a fictitious company used only for entertainment purpose.
4) Y - You did research on the company and found out this company is in the top 5 or 10 in it's market worldwide and has 50 distributors around the globe and would really like to buy your domain name

This is just for fun.:)

There are many possible variations and approaches based on circumstances and how much more info you have to work with and the actual domain name is the most important factor to consider as well.

I am just referencing the domain name sales that we all have seen in the past that have fetched $xxx, xxx and it probably shouldn't have fetched nearly that much. Example: arearugs/ com
I would be curious to know how they responded to that Letter of Interest. I am sure the sale didn't happen just after 1 response letter but interesting to note.

Serious or not.... post how you would reply.

Many letters, I am sure would be similar in style. This thread could actually be of use to everyone for references.
I always found it the hardest to get sellers to share their ideas of how they reply to potential buyers through email. Not sure why when it is the preferred method to respond.

Thank you for your interest. "

....

What would YOUR reply be? Remember.....you are going for top dollar for your best name.

Write a brief reply. ...

Y,Y,N,N.

...I always found it the hardest to get sellers to share their ideas of how they approach potential buyers by email.

I'd write back -

Why would you want a 'reply' from a seller to your query of buying a name, when you're really looking to find out how to 'approach' a buyer to sell a name?

If you're too confused to know what you want, maybe you should be looking for a shrink, not a domainers reselling techniques.

lol very nice .....considering this particular buyer is serious about buying your domain name you may be in contention for a "FLUB" award which goes to the funniest reply letter. Most likely it won't lead to a $1,000,000 sale. But you never know. :D

Dear Mr. Man,

Thank you for your interest in xxxxxxx .com. I am willing to let this domain go for $1, however it has been apart of my business for several years now. Not only will this cause us to relocate but we need to purchase new business cards, redo all our marketing, scrap the signs off all our vehicles, tell the almost-naked window dancers to go home, throw away our coffee mugs & mousepads, change the urls of our customer service help sites, reconfigure our intranet, cancel the newly ordered product packaging, redesign our Second Life virtual presence, resubmit our iPhone app and overall rebrand our entire image.

The total expense for us to make these above changes is estimated to be around $999,999.

If you are interested in purchasing the domain for $1 plus the cost of our expenses to reconstruct our entire business we can move forward with negotiations. Otherwise, the .info is readily available to register.

Regards,
Tia Wood

Brujah wins in my book. :p

By saying NFS you open the door for them to make a substantial offer, or buzz off.

This is a very good point! If they are serious enough they will know EVERYTHING is for sale at the right price. This one might seal the deal. ;)

I am currently unsure to the value of my domain.

Please give me one week to consult the experts in the Appraisals section at Namepros.com.

I will respond back in about three bumps.

:D :D :D Funny!

Never ever do that, this is a wholesale venue, the appraisals you'll get probably won't have anything to do with the retail price of the domain.

And it takes three bumps? Not unless the name is worthless... ;)
