Is it legal to register a singer or band's name as a domain name?

Note:
Singer/band already released song/album

Thankyou

If you registered Axl Rose, or Guns n Roses, and you know full well its targeted at them, then no. That's a problem

It is legal. No one is going to send you to jail.

PS You won't go to jail, but its within the realm of possibility for you to face legal problems, targeting well known bands and their singers, considering the domains only hold value, because of them

Saying this is legal is bad advice. Sure, it is not criminal but your life could be ruined via civil action.

It is best not to mess with these type of domains.

Though if you registered Sting . com and had a site about bees...

But if it's a name like Axl Rose, not a good idea.

Thanks all.

When I got this name, I didn't know there was a band with this name.

Then I tried to check on google, and bang.. the band appeared.

I didn't know the band still exist or not. Last song released at 2021.

It depends on how unique the term is, how well known they are, etc.

I am sure that bmugford is just giving you this advice to keep you safe,
but he failed to mention these other safety tips:

Never kiss a girl as she might have mononucleosis, meningitis, polio, herpes or gum disease.
Never pet a dog as he might have rabies.
Never swim in the ocean as you might get eaten by a shark.
Never leave your house as you might get run over by a bus.

Well, that is a rather stupid list of irrelevant analogies but people can do what they want.

However, making bad decisions are more likely to lead to bad outcomes.

A more accurate analogy is like running a red light or driving drunk. Sure, nothing might happen, but sooner or later if you play around with these types of risky domains you are likely to get smashed.

People can decide for themselves if it is worth the risk.

You are comparing buying a domain name to crimes where you risk your life.
How are those more accurate analogies? No one ever died or went to jail
because they bought a domain name. Do you have any self-awareness at all?

It is simply illustrating a risky decision leading to a (predictable) bad outcome.
The criminality is irrelevant.

Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes.
