Learning IRC Channel

Well, my idea is an IRC channel dedicated to learning. Let me explain;

We have hosts, who are skilled in a certain area who are able and willing to teach others. They apply and are approved by the Namepros staff. These hosts register a time, 'book' the IRC channel for a certain amount of time for there lesson (in w/e SEO, Domain names, php/mysql, etc).

Members can 'register' for the talk/discussion in advance, for a fee of $2.50/each or something. The people who pay will get access to the IRC channel at that time. Most of the money can go to the host (as an incentive for the session).

Hosts will have control over the IRC server during there talk, they can disable voices on normal users (until the host allows questions) or open it up for discussion throughout.

Just an idea to expand the community a little more, what do you guys think?

It's a great idea and i think it work very well, however the "Mentors" would have to prove their knowledge before hand? As somebody could claim to be a genius in the field of making toilet roll towers and then not have a clue about it and take the people who opted to take that lessons money.

Maybe a sort of escrow service whereby each users puts in their $2.50 for the course and then after every participant rates it and if no complaints are received then the mentor gets the money?

Well, they'd have to prove there knowledge to the staff to successfully apply to be a host. When a host creates a talk/event the complete contents of the event (like an index) along with a description is displayed. So members can know exactly if this event if what they actually want to join. It wouldn't be like "PHP/Mysql stuff 22/03/2019 12:00 gmt+12, join $2.50".

I like the basic idea...just not sure about a few things. First, why can't the normal NamePros chatroom be used? You can moderate there, have multiple rooms, know who you're chatting with (on the forum), etc. Second, what's the deal with the fees? Sounds like something that belongs on a third party site, something completely separate from NamePros...

Because if it's free, it will be harder to keep active / going. A small fee gives an incentive to the host to do what he is doing. The normal NamePros chatroom can be used, just a different channel. Why? Because hosts will need authority over it during their event (+voice, -voice, warnings, etc).

I like the idea - but I'm not too sure about the fee. Then again, $2.50 is roughly £1.25, I'm sure I can spare that...

I agree with citricsquid some vetting would have to take place on the so called tutors before they were let loose.

For example in PHP there are too many people who *claim* to know so much but when pushed find they don't know as much as they claimed or thought.

I think its easy to spare like 100np$ to learn something like php or seo for a hour

I can also assist in the irc server (having one etc.) no problems.. I can also teach all the lesson hosts how to use it/assist them with problems.

It is a good idea.. I will do some sessions also!

well its a good idea but I think more share should go for the one who teaches, coz he does the real work. Thats my opinion. A nice idea.

This project is moving fast -

The mission is obviously to provide learners with a cheap and effective learning medium through live lectures and courses.

And teachers with a rewarding teaching role aswell as a financial payment.

We are going to keep this relatively simple and hope "lecture" tickets are going to be less than a few dollars a person.
