Hi, I'm designing a page that would be made very very easy if I used layers to compose all the graphic content, but my friend said it's a bad idea to use layers as they're very outdated and I should always use tables instead.

Are there pros and cons of layers? I'm still trying to actually work out if what I'm trying to do is possible just using tables. Are there times where you have to use layers or anything hat can be done using layers is possible with tables (just more difficult)?

Any thoughts welcome.

there are pros and cons to everything. i personally do not like layers - i am a strong believer that layers do not appear correctly in the most popular browsers. but there are still many people who like the benefits of layers.

If you think that they are absolutely necessary is your project - then by all means, go ahead and do it

I've never used layers, never knew what they were for, never bothered trying to use them.
