then I tried 3 different cities + each term, new york, orlando, dallas

and attorney got more searches on all of them

For me in Canada I would say lawyer is more common

I did google trends, part of the problem is that 'attorney general' seems to distort results when searching news, trends and google keyword, I did see lawyer more popular in some search variations and attorney in others. That's why i think from a local source makes sense, many thanks. I guess am wondering what would be seen on a highway billboard, i did even check the name of the legal guy in Breaking Bad (he was referred to as a lawyer) http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0148234/?ref_=tt_cl_t7

What I do with a lot of domains I'm interested in, is doing a Google images search, I like to see it in "pictures", businesses using terms. Did that with law billboard, lawyer billboard, attorney billboard. Just a quick glance, it seems the city + lawyer/attorney search numbers above are pretty accurate. Looks like attorney gets used just a tad more. I don't think you can go wrong with either term really. I think they like using attorney better because sometimes lawyer might be a little negative, think of all the lawyer jokes.
