Hello,

I am still only starting out in Domain Buying & Selling and I don't really know what is good and what is not! I have taken this list off the front page of Namewinner.com as I think That they have quite a few good 2 word domain names.

I want to know what to get, and what not to get.. and the only way I can see of doing this by giving a list of names and asking you which ones you think are the best ones and How much they are worth.

If you could please Pick the ones that You think are the best from this list from namewinner.com and tell me why you think they are good and how much you think that they could get sold for if they were sold on a site such as Sedo.com.

** Deleted Long List - Luke **

If you could do this, It would be totally great! By doing this, This will give me and others people starting out with domains, what to look out for!

Thankyou Soo Much for any Posts Here

- Luke :guilty:

:hi:

I wouldn't go wild with registering and buying domains at stage 1 since you're just starting out in the game. I would first recommend you read all through the posts and threads here at NamePros and get familiar with the basics and everything with the Industry. Once you've got the knowledge and feel more comfortable with your expertise level then you will then know what to buy and what to stay away from.

That's the mistake of newbies in the business as they will go crazy registering names to only find out later they can't sell them for even a buck. There's bundles of valuable information here that could help you considerably if you take the time to read it. You've only been here for a day so you surely haven't thoroughly read through the posts and threads that quickly. Don't rush into the business, as it will turn around and bite you in the behind if you do. You'll end up losing money, instead of making money.

Another helpful thing to do is to check out Sedo, DNJournal, etc to monitor the sales to see what sells and what doesn't. It's all a matter of being in the right place at the right time when a potential buyer comes along. A domain that's valuable to one may be worthless to another. If a domain sells for a couple thousand bucks then the buyer must have a need for it and the very same name may be worth $200 to another individual.

There's really no guidelines of what to register since there's so many people out there with different interests. You just really have to analyze each and every name to think of it's potential. Who will be interested in buying it? What's the target audience for this name? Is this a name that will be popular? What price range will it most likely sell for? What's the chances it will sell? Is it a brandable name for a company?

Once you've gained the knowledge then it will be pretty clear on the value of domains and what to register and what should you stay away from. :)

I wish you the very best with starting out in the Industry as it can be a very rewarding and fun career/hobby/interest, however you may consider it. :tu:

By the way Welcome to NamePros! B-)

Well said Chris! - and as others have pointed out - why these names (in particular)?

Heres a brief (and might i say 'newly formed') domain acquisition rules 1 and 2.

1. No .com drops are worth regged unless you are prepared to pay at least $100 up to an $unlimited amount of money (and know what you are doing first)
2. No (or very little) available decent .coms or .nets left for reg fee unless (as Mole rightly points out) you know a new / specific or niche target market?

Thats it, dont waste your time and your money.

And the list.................. ? Painful.

Ian's rules

1. concentrate on those areas to which you are interested.
2. dont necessarily look for only .coms
3. dont get drawn in to IT names, imho, these are over subscribed and only sell between domainers and for wholesale values (with exceptions)
4. look out for newly regged icann ccTLD'ds, domaindiscount24 has most and also gives you a guide as to what a ccTLD could also be used for (eg. .sc - Scotland, South Carolina, Source etc)
5. research, research and research a name before buying. And i dont mean with back links, overture etc as this would only count if you were buying a dropped name and even then it will cost you $$$+.
6. And finally, you will not get rich overnight buying and selling domains. Look at it as a hobby. The internet is young (still) and anything could happen. Domain names could become obsolete in a year or two or everyone on here with any reasonable name could become rich or long phrases might become valuable (especially with the advent of voice recognition) the truth is, we simply dont know. But keeping an eye on latest developments will not hurt your cause.

Good luck, and welcome to the domain generation gold rush. We hope you enjoy your stay. :)

Wow, Thanks for all of that! At the Moment Im just trying to get rid of my Godaddy.com Backordering account Because everyone seems to be saying its rubbish anyway, so im generally just scrapping it as it seems useless.

It just looks impossible to find a deicent domain that isnt owned by a Big company, which seems very annoying!

Im researching Backordering, Is this the best way to acquire a domain? I was told that with Godaddy.com and Snapnames.com on a domain name there would be a 20-30% Chance of getting a popular domain name.

At the moment my budget it extrememly small. I was Hoping to get 1 domain name, then put 50% of that into a new domain name and putting 40% into another domain name.. and so on! But Now it doesnt look so easy :|

Thanks for all of the things that you have mentioned above, but what is really the Best tactic of getting into this Hobby... as to me it will just be a hobby! Where to sell, what to manage money with online etc.?
