I saw that Justin.tv peaked at #136 on the alexa ranking yesterday. It was just last summer they were in the #x,xxx range. The growth they have experienced has been stunning.

Besides two chinese .cc's, the top sites are limited only to .org,.net,.com and the cctld's

for reference some major site rankings.
twitter.com = 322
digg.com = 249

Also it fun to look at http://live.justin.tv/ during their peak usage times, and witness the insane amount of bandwidth they push out.

.cc is also a country code. Once you scrape out c/n/o and country codes there isn't a heck of a lot left.....ok there is .mobi, .info and .museum!

The stats have already updated. I've noticed the graph sometimes shows different stats from the text details. Yesterday it was reporting 136.

Country codes are the c/n/o's of the representative country, so they are in the same class. The point is, other than the exceptionable domain hack, there is only one extension that is credible enough to have major development backing and thats .tv. Justin.tv is only one example of that.

This seems a rather biased opinion to me, there is lots of domains in the list in a similar category of using country code domains that don't really serve as country codes, the 2 .cc's, .us (imageshack, delicious) and the .tv. "only one extension that is credible enough to have major development backing" clearly isn't an accurate statement.

I really don't think the ability to these companies to get major development backing has anything much to do with the domain. There was some stats recently showing .tv's market share in the Alex 1million list was about 0.35%, you can see how this compares with other alt extensions and rebranded cc tlds.

Entries in the Alexa 1million list

.biz 3,879
.tv 3,545
.us 3,340
.cc 2,129

justin.tv has been doing a great job in traffic and new media for socail video blogging.

the next 2 years should be interesting to see how they do on things since they have users.

I meant major initial backing.

There may be exceptions but you will rarely see major sites launching with .us or .info or .biz or .name or .whatever, unless they are used as domain hacks (del.icio.us). You will see med to smaller sites that experienced massive growth (imageshack.us)

It will be once in a blue moon before you read in the paper that a new non-hack million+ dollar backed business website launched with .biz. Or an informational site with .info. Or a us based business with .us. It just doesn't happen, they are just not seen as alternatives to .com. They are not taken seriously.

You will see .orgs, .tvs, .coms and maybe .nets.

You just don't see sites like blip.tv, sites that come out of the gate with big bucks backing it in any extension outside of the c/n/o's and the cctld's.. .cc might be the exception, i don't follow that extension at all, but if it is, its only happening in china.

I could be wrong, i may have missed a few press releases, i'm sure you'll let me know.

Also, when i refer to top sites, I don't mean Alexa top million, a site with 500 uniques a day can be ranked in the top million.

justintv.com, only 2 million dollar it says on their website, only serious offers wanted. Mmm Las Vegas phonenumber, maybe needs 2 million for a roulette system.
No idea what the price for justin.tv is
