Just sold bicycle.tv for $2000.00 - Lets fill up DNJournal!!

I just sold bicycle.tv for $2000.00. The wire transfer confirmation should be coming in a couple of hours and I will announce the name.

I saw that Ankara.tv went for $1500.00. Lets see if we can get a few more of these $1000.00 plus .tv sales to make an impact on DNJournal again. The more large sales we post the more the "mainstream" domainers can't ignore us!!

Go .TV!!!

congrats on the sale...

Any exposure that gets the extension in front of people and gets them thinking about .TV as more mainstream can't hurt.

All depends on prospective

DNJournal sales have a negative impact. They cause prices to rise. I never report a sale there, including MyrtleBeach.tv.

he is right. the buyers and the sellers on this board have somewhat different objectives.

But that market is still mostly driven by the market and the market is still very very thin on the buy-side (see the auction as an example)

most major purchases are occuring by members of this board so it is not exactly outside validation

i chose NO. if you already have the portfolio you want and are trying to sell then the exposure on DNjournal is good because you can probably get more for your names. If you are still trying to buy .tv names on the aftermarket it is horrible because then everyone thinks all their .tv names are worth the same amount even if their names arent very good so then when you make an offer on Sedo for a .tv name people counter with like 25k for a name that is worth nowhere near that. Dnjournal exposure probably wont help much in bringing endusers to your name also.

Well I think the op was concerned with the impact for sellers not buyers. Once you have your portfolio you are not concerned that others who came to the party late pay higher prices for their domains.

So if you are a seller it is a benefit because Ron Jackson has more clout in the domain industry than just about anyone. He speaks at TRAFFIC and he is asked for input on major articles in bigger publications. The fact that more people see more .tv sales on his domain sales list is a good thing for sellers IMO

The name is Bicycle.tv and the buyer was the same buyer who purchased Alcohol.tv from me last week. He is on this board and his handle is Heroes. And he truly is mu Hero :)

Thank you again for another great sale Heroes, I will contact you off board about your other questions.

antonis got the point I'm trying to make. DNJournal is not a friend to the buyers....and without buyers, they will be fewer sales....economics 101.

in reality the issue is not DNJournal. The issue is the emotional impact it has on sellers.

I have one seller who I offered $1K. He told me price was two. three weeks later I came back $2K, he told me it was now four. Three months i came back $2K, then it was $4K. I asked why. Because there are more sales. Have you sold - no. any interest other than me - no. Then I tried to get into an intelligent conversation about his pricing. I found alot of emotion and very little logic.

That was a year ago. The domain remains unsold. He now contacts me every week or two with prices lower than $2,000 trying to get me to buy. Not going to buy it at any cost.

This is for a .COM.

sounds like the emotion of "pissed off" has got you on this one. why not just take it at $2k now that the seller has dropped the price to the range you once offered for it? not going to buy it at any cost as you say may (or may not) actually be hurting yourself by refusing to take a good deal if it is indeed that. so what is this name anyway?

just my 2 cents...

btw, i understood what you were saying about DNJ etc, however i was saying (as the seller) i was happy with it :). i see you just got newportbeach.tv what did that cost ya? i recently picked up huntingtonbeach.tv.

regards,

CCD

Sure CCD

$300 for newportbeach.tv. Did you buy Huntington or was it a drop? You can PM me a price.

See I have the plural and I was trying trying to protect my flank with the singular.

Yes, emotion does play a part on both sides of the equation. The media is designed to feed emotions.

If he offers $1K I might take, but at this point the budget I had allocated for the domain went to something else.

Domain sellers need to realize, they are not the only game in town. Many people are selling high quality domains. If you want to play hard ball, chances are; someone else is willing to negotiate.

You are very right. Hype and speculation leads to emotional overpricing. Generally speaking though, prices are rising for domains I would say.

Right now there are so few .tv sales reported in DNJournal that it may even have a negative effect on prices. For example, I expected to see MANY .tv sales after the big Demand Media launch and have seen very few. So, the LACK of .tv sales reported there makes me wonder about the value and popularity of .tv.

If there aren't some substantial .tv sales reported in DNJournal by October, I will have to rethink my love for .tv.

Reported from buyers OTHER than a couple NP TV forum members :bingo:

CCD,
Didn't you have a forum before? I remember visiting there and it looked like you had a pretty decent sized community. Is it still around?

Thanks,
