I suspect most of us would be hard pressed to be offline for 24 hours, but for those of us that would like to get the "computer monkey" off our backs, kick our "ugly" habits and maybe see the light of day (literally...), March 24th has been "designated", "Shut Down Day".

http://www.shutdownday.org/?lng=en

It is obvious that people would find life extremely difficult without computers, maybe even impossible. If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope?

Be a part of one of the biggest global experiments ever to take place on the internet. The idea behind the experiment is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate!

Shutdown your computer on this day and find out! Can you survive for 24 hours without your computer?
Hi! My name is TestCase, and I'm a webaholic...

I saw this on Digg a few days ago.

I could go without my PC for a day, but i'm not going to for the sake of that site.

I hate computers. It's only a tool for heaven's sake. I would rather do all of this face to face to be honest.

When I go on Holiday, I love the sound of silence, the background without the whir of the fans...

I suppose if I got a nice, quiet laptop, I'd change my mind

Meh, after 5 years of it it's fine. It's only for 4 hours and it means we have longer holidays so all round we win

It's a help especially now when exams are looming, but i could still live without it :D

Well, this makes a whole lot of sense.

If no-one used a computer for 24 hours then the whole of the world would grind to a halt for the day...

For the record my dad is a self employed builder and my mother is an out of work bank nurse. And i do not speak with a arrogant English accent....always :)

That's generally the point that's being made, how dependant we are on machines. Kinda like the Matrix...but better acted.

haha you're so right about that. Horrible acting is The Matrix _\|/_ .

It would be interesting nonetheless lol, but nobody would do it unless the internet died (would need the help of every ISP on the planet, which would never happen :/ )

Private schools here are about $3500 for the year or something lol..

I definitely could turn off my computer for a day, but I'm not going to just for the sake of proving to myself that I can.

Maybe we should have a day where no one is allowed to use electricity, or the light bulb... Fact is in our modern world the computer is just as important, if not more important than those things. Of course then there are the people that use their computers for porn and World of Warcraft, I think they should be the ones to turn them off for a day. :)
