Straight from Encirca:
.jobs serves the global human resource (HR) community by providing a simple, fast and consistent method to communicate the exact online destination of their jobs page to job seekers using the Internet. It is a new way to position and place your company's HR interests on the Internet by using your www.companyname.jobs.

The most common type of registration will be in the form of companyname.jobs, but users may register any domain as long as it contains their company name.

For example, Google Inc. could register not only Google.jobs, but also us-google.jobs, uk-google.jobs, china-google.jobs based on hiring locations as well as google-search.jobs, google-support.jobs and google-marketing.jobs for types of positions that are available.

The Start-up Period for .jobs begins June 19, 2005 at 11:30 am EST and runs until August 15, 2005. To apply for your .jobs domain name during the Start-up Period, submit your company name here. Note that there will be a $50 non-refundable fee for all applications during the Start-up Period.

Eligibility during the .jobs Start-up Period will be open to any organization who can verify it had employees as of January 1, 2005. In the event that there is more than a single valid request for an identical .jobs domain name, selection will be made by the .jobs registry using a conflict resolution process. Starting in September, 2005, .jobs registrations will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

You have to have at least ONE employee as of January 1, 2005.

My only concern is what constitutes an "employee"...

The explanation given by encirca can't really be complete, unfortunately. There SHOULD be some requirement of proof of paying payroll taxes or similar to avoid fraud. I wasn't able to find (With a quick search) any more specific requirements, but the $50 non-refundable application fee should cut down on some of the more "suspect" options.

As well, any hope of getting "typo" traffic should be met with quick action by the company in question :imho:

Not the best extension for domainers to speculate on, yet again :imho:

But if anyone does, let us know how it goes ;)

Reading the policy, you have to prove that the name you register is the legal name of your company before they will activate resolution of the name. You also must use the domain only for HR functions of your company or it could be revoked. You also have to agree to the code of conduct/standars of SHRM, the sponsoring organization.

I would agree that if you intend to speculate, you better wait for another TLD. You also can't register most geneics.

They do have a sense of reality and humor in as the rules state the following:

Our Reserve List Policy includes the following product categories. Domains in these categories are either registry-reserve or otherwise reserved from registration (I've bolded the funny part):

1. Occupational and Industry (e.g., nursing.jobs, accounting.jobs, retail.jobs)

2. Geographic (e.g., cityname .jobs, regionname .jobs, zipcode .jobs)

3. ICANN-reserved (e.g., country .jobs, icann.jobs, iana.jobs)

4. Other Generics (e.g., recruit.jobs, blow.jobs)

Names reserved into any of the above categories are not available for registration in the companyname.jobs category
