Because of my day job I tend to pay attention to the employment industry, though primarily for a specific niche. I've only seen 3 "dot jobs" sites promoted in this niche and they either duplicated what was already on the company's normal "dot com" site or simply redirected to the job section of their "dot com's".
We actually reg'd "ourowncompanyname.jobs" last year thinking we might put it to use, but we ended up dropping it this year. That was an expensive lesson.
I will say that I think that "dot jobs" would be appropriate for Generic terms (Nursing.jobs, Engineer.jobs, etc) but I'm guessing those domains will eventually be sold for the kind of BIG dollars that only major players can afford.
**** EDIT ****
Hadn't read the article before making my post.
Now that I see they are the Generic type names I was talking about I'm truly PO'd. One of the previous requirements for registering and using a "dot jobs" domain was that it had to be directly related to your business and you could not post jobs for anyone other than your business entity. So much for those stipulations...
Looks like a backroom deal to me.
**** EDIT #2 ****
.jobs Domain Name Rules
Registrations must be "yourcompanyname" .com domain, where "yourcompanyname" is either: (a) the legal trade name of the employer (minus identifiers such as "the" or "inc" or "gmbh" etc.); (b) a name by which the employer is commonly known; or (c) contains either (a) or (b).
For example: The Your Company Name may request:
YourCompanyName.jobs
YourCompanyName.jobs
YourCompanyNamesystems.jobs
YourCompanyName-financial.jobs
YourCompanyNameprogramming.jobs
The domain can not be on one of the reserved lists, such as ICANN's reserved list, occupational (e.g., nursing.jobs, accounting.jobs) and industry (e.g., retail.jobs, manufacturing.jobs, recruiting.jobs) identifiers, geographic names (such as cities, regions, zip codes, etc.), profane words (either by themselves or in combination, such as "blow") and others (such as generic terms). .jobs will maintain these reserved lists and your requested domain name will be checked against them.
Usage Restrictions
Websites at .jobs domains may only be used to post information about your company, such as your own job postings, company culture, company information, etc.
Third party job postings (i.e., job boards) are not allowed.
Non-HR-related uses are not allowed.
The registrant is responsible for the use of the domain, including to a licensed third party.
.jobs will enforce the use restrictions and will shut down and, if necessary, cancel a registration if the registrant does not comply.
--------------
Seems they kept the best names for themselves and their cronies and also created a different set of rules to play by.
