I have just read an interesting article on Seeking Alpha in which the Author thinks Apple shares will become Googles price and Googles will become Apples price, in other words Google is going down.

I have commented on this Author before, he has a tendancy to be wrong pretty badly sometimes, though i agree with him on quite a few things in this article. Im not sure if apps will overtake .com anytime soon though, interesting theory.

I have just read an interesting article on Seeking Alpha ...
Thanks for the link. The author makes a bold stock price prediction, right or wrong Apple is well positioned to profit from converging trends.

1) The iPhone/iTouch combo is the fastest-growing consumer electronics product of all time. App download growth rate is accelerating. In technology, the system with the most applications and best application ecosystem usually wins.
source

2) Global mobile data traffic will double every year through 2013, increasing 66 times between 2008 and 2013.

The mobile internet growth cycle will create and destroy more wealth than any previous computing cycle. Domainers, buckle your seatbelts.

Good article..

don't quite agree with equating .com's to PC's only and apps overtaking .com's.

If you look at the brand investment in .com's over the last 15 years, apps have a long way to go. App builders will have promote their apps outside the apple world.

I predict that Apple will apply for the .app and/or .apps TLDs, and .app will become the new .com

Apple quickly realized that apps would one day overtake .coms.
this makes no sense, it isn't .coms vs. apps, they are completely different categories (apps vs. dot mobi would more sense but even that is wrong)

They knew that mobile devices would overtake PCs.
maybe in actual numbers but it's gonna be a long time until people do more _work_ on their mobile devices (maybe the apple tablet will change that ?)
It leaves Google completely dependent on the Apple and Microsoft (MSFT) communities for its success. Exactly what Schmidt has been trying to avoid.
what the @#$, google is plugged in to the entire internet, apple and microsoft could more easily disappear before google, if you're gonna use the internet you gonna find google, no matter how you get there

Google has no moat around its search. Users can change their habits in a day and they will.
yeah, except the statistics prove you wrong buddy, users _don't_ change their habits very easily, they have proven to be very loyal to google

Steve Jobs thinks that mobile advertising is terrible and is ready to revolutionize it with Apple's purchase of Quattro.
agreed, but he isn't that smart that he can fix this mess with a single wave of his wand

Googleโ€™s business will remain an important player in the evolution of the Internet age but the writing is on the wall. Sell Google, buy Apple.
maybe, i would never predict whose stock is going up or down, buy all three, they are all part of the puzzle

disclosure: hard core google user who loves apple hardware and uses microsoft office everyday

ms. how would an .app domain work, i assume you would go to the .app and then download the app and then the updates or would you use the.app as a regular site ? wouldn't that be somewhat redundant

i think apps will work for some things (i.e. games and health stuff for example) but web sites, maybe .app, maybe .mobi or maybe any other tld will work for information (news travel, weather, money, sports)

i use an ipod touch and there is a limit to how many apps you can have on the thing and not get confused

finally, is everyone going to build a separate app for each platform ? iphone are _not_ gonna take over the world
