Job Search

My first job search is going really slow and is starting to irritate me. I am only 16 but in my case I have obtained my GED early and attend junior college. That seems to make no difference though, any advice, and wish me luck and pray for the future.

Finding a job now a days is very hard, I can only imagine at the age of 16. A friend of mine and I looked for a job for about 3 months, applying at the same locations totaling 32 before we were both finally hired. He was hired almost a month before me, at no other than a... fast food restaurant. I ended up starting at a large amusement park, moving 40 miles away from my hometown.
He is a highschool dropout, with more job experience. I am a High School graduate, 3.4 GPA & currently learning spanish. You just never know exactly what employers are looking for.
My advice: Go in with a smile, you never know who will remember you. Be proud of yourself, any accomplishment you have obtained show them off.. no matter how small they may seem to you, put them down! It takes time and determination to find a job, and once you find one you'll want to hang onto it.

You can make very good money as a waiter in restaurants. I'm not sure the minimum age, but it's either 16 or 18 (not 21)
Some nights are total hell, and you'll wish you'd never seen this post , but overall you can meet a lot of people and have tons of fun. If needed, you could start as a busboy or host, but waiter is much better money.

Even with a bad economy you can still find waiter jobs.

This will eventually give you a list of at least 10 fantastic vacations which you can take someday. I've not been able to take all my trips, yet, but I'll never give up believing I'll be able to someday. :wave:

Job searching is one of the most irritating things in the world. It is like prostituting yourself: trying to promote your good sides while hiding away or lieing about your flaws. It is so frustrating.

Unfortunately it is part of life. And for me, with the lifestyle of moving from country to country, it means I have to do it often. I never stay in a country longer than 1 or 2 years and then move on. This means each time new jobhuntings... Argh. I love my travel lifestyle, so it is a deliberate choice, the jobhunts is one of the only frustrating parts of it. I should search a freelance sort of job that I can just take with me from country to country. I fear I haven't got the degrees for that though, even though freelance writer would be perfect: you just need an internet connection to send your articles, so you take your job to any country you wish to live for a year (without the need to seduce a local employer)
