In case you aren't already aware of the appraisal scam, here's a little bit about how it works:

How much do you want for your domain?

We have found it listed for sale and we have a good offer for you.

Our comapny invests in domains and developed sites. If you have a list of
domains for sale, please send the list with prices in plain text.

We prefer ".com", ".net", ".co", ".co.uk", ".us" and easy-to-remember
names with other extensions.

I have a 8,000 USD budget for 5-8 domain names. Have you had your domain names evaluated in the past? Without a valuation certificate we cannot be sure in the sale price. Moreover, my accountant and tax services always ask for valaution certificates :). On the other side, it's very important for me in terms of reselling too. Of course, we must engage a valuation company with a REAL manual service. So I will only accept valuations from independent sources I and my accountant trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies. Please check this blog with suggestions from other sellers and buyers:
domainexplorer .org/Archive/5297164.htm

If, for example, the valuation comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. It will be fair. I also hope you can give me 12% - 15% discount.

After you send me the valuation via email (usually it takes 1-2 days to obtain it) we'll continue our negotiations. Do you sell domain with a web site or just the name? Domain without content is ok with me. Web site is not necessary.

What is your preferred payment method: Escrow.com, International wire transfer, PayPal.com or something else?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Looking forward to your reply.

I just got the same SCAM just after an update I made in SEDO. I guess those bastards are scanning new posts in SEDO.

I got 2 emails from him, the first was:

The registrants address does not exist.
There are only 8 in Regent Close, numbered 1-8.
With my limited skills I tried to track them down before, as have many others. For as long as the registrars allow false whois information to be placed on domains, then we will always have this problem. Another problem are companies like domainsbyproxy and others who will help these scammers to hide their identity.

The registrants address does not exist.
There are only 8 in Regent Close, numbered 1-8.

The names, companies and whois information on every one of these emails is probably false. Betcha the real owner is NOT in the US or the UK (Possibly Russia - a lot of the early scam letters originated from there.)

The sickening thing about this, to me, is that for a number of years now, supposedly respectable businesses have been providing this scammer with services, and unless they walk around with blinkers on, at least one of them will know this guys identity.
The internet still has very dirty players in high places.

Just the other day I received the same email scam. I will just ignore him for the time being, he should get the idea.

I got one too with asking price. I replied to the email so far have not received any other email. But good to know that this is scam. This is for domain I recently registered organicusa dot org.

There is already a thread about this, although I think it started with different names and urls for the scammer. They should be merged I think.

But I did want to post here that if you do get one of these, or other such scam emails you CAN do something about it. Just report it as SPAM and you can often get their hosting account closed and domain suspended. It does work because I do it all the time. :)

Is it a domain scam?

Just received an email from a guy at name-deals dot com,
i listed the domain at sedo for several days only,
i have never heard this site before,
he even don't list my domain at the email,
is it likely a automatic email?
what should i do now? Asking for $1K for a .NET domain, is it okay? :lala:
.ORG is available still,
how much i should ask for you think is acceptable? and i won't lose the sale.

Can you accept 14,000 USD?

I have a 36,000 USD budget for 5-7 domain names. Have you had your domain names evaluated in the past? Without a valuation certificate we cannot be sure in the sale price. I see, but it's a standard practice to show independent valuation to
buyers/resellers. Nobody will do business without it. I'm a businessman and
have no intention of changing rules which help both parties to avoid
additional risks.

Of course, investors never take into account auto-generated valuations. So
manual valuation is a "must" too.

I read the following information about appraisals at:
domainexplorer.org/Archive/5386271.htm

Without the independent valuation from a trusted source we don't spend a
penny. This is our financial policy. So our offer is just a rought estimate.
If the appraisal comes higher we are ready to offer a bit more. If it comes
lower we will discuss the price with you again.

Thank you for understanding. I'm looking forward to do business with you.

Hope we can come to an agreement fast because I'll be on vacation soon.
