A Canadian Jade mining company says it has entered into an agreement to acquire the Jade.com domain name for USD $1.25 million.

CDN Jade Mine Resources Inc., a Canadian mining company, said it is raising CAD $1.8 million to help pay for the domain name. In a release, CEO Shao Long Li said, “We are extremely pleased to announce our plans to acquire JADE.COM; this could significantly expand our customer reach by developing a strong platform for the global trade of jade.”

The company is focused on mining jade, a green ornamental stone.

Considering the value of Jade, paying that much for the domain isn't a stretch for a very large distributor of the Gemstone. Diamond.com, another common Gemstone and that sold for millions. Same would happen for Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, etc.

I read that Jade is worth more than Gold in China.

I am not sure about the size of the global jade market I would guess that compared to gold or diamonds it is still tiny. So from that perspective it should be worth only a fraction of Gold.com or Diamond.com

It can go for more than gold but it depends on the quality.

99.999% is the highest purity grade for gold, hence the meaning behind 99999.gold.

Imho, it is a good choice and meaningful.

She could also get 999.gold and create a subdomain 99.999.gold ))
