To what extent can you develop a celeb non-.com domain without incurring problems. That is, if you develop an unofficial fansite, can you have Amazon, AllPoster and/or Adsense links without a problem? I understand some celebs claim TM on their names, while others recover the .com without such a status. What is the best way to approach developing an unofficial fansite and deriving some revenues from it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks RF :tu:

2 words: ask permission.

Adding a disclaimer won't necessarily protect you.

Yeah, asking permission would be the best thing to do. If they refuse, then I would skip it. Especially since now they'll be more alert. ;)

Ummm, bad advice IMHO

You have a TM domain and you ask a celeb for permission for YOU to make money for THEIR name. They save the letter/email, go to a judge, show him proof of bad faith, the end, you lose, you hope not to be fined....

Sorry, but a true fan site does not make money. no ads, no subscriptions, no adsense nothing. If you attempt (notice attempt, not needs to) to make money from it, you no longer have honorable intentions for the domain.

Squatters are known for registering names with the hope of making money, they is why they have a bad rap (and some deservedly so). Some people do have fan sites up becasue they are fans.

So what is your true intention, a fansite or to make money? The answer of that question will show your path.

PS- If you are serious about setting up a fansite, PM me.

The sites are being produces as fan sites; the revenue questions were about covering the time and resources put into producing the site itself . Thanks, RF
