discuss Is this an AI branding war, not a domain investment story?

AI.com reportedly changed hands for around $70 million, with a public debut planned around Super Bowl LX. What’s interesting isn’t the price. It’s why this happens now.

In AI, models feel similar. Features copy overnight. APIs look the same.
So it feels like branding might be playing a bigger role than before.

That makes me wonder:
Is AI.com less about traffic, and more about being the first name people think of for AI?
Are we entering a phase where AI companies compete on names because the tech itself is harder to differentiate?

If the biggest domain sale of all time isn't interesting because of the price then you might be in the wrong game 😉

We're probably in the midst of the biggest investment bubble ever known and the acquisition cost reflects this imo....

Agreed — this feels less about type-in traffic and more about category ownership. Some domains don’t just capture visitors; they capture narrative. That has long-term strategic value beyond immediate monetization.

Different people will naturally focus on different aspects, and that’s fine.

The price obviously matters. I wasn’t suggesting otherwise.

What I was pointing at is why similar names are drawing attention at the same time. Sometimes that timing tells you something about market sentiment beyond a single number.

All good....it was a tongue in cheek comment about the price interest 🙂

Nothing personal towards you 👌

Yeah, it’s not about monetization today, it’s about shaping how the market talks about the space tomorrow.

Haha, got it, bro.
Makes sense. With numbers like that, it’s hard not to joke about the price.
All good on my end:xf.wink:
