The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

All it appears to be is image backgrounds where you put the adsense unit over top. You would still have to code that background image into your existing template and through positioning get the ad to appear on top. You are not actually editing the adsense code itself in any way.

But you are calling unusual attention to it. I wouldn't do it myself, and the Google employee who participates in the AdSense forum on Webmasterworld.com advised against it as well (he couldn't say it was specifically forbidden without actually seeing an example, and there are no examples or links allowed at WMW)

Definitely would not go ahead without getting it approved by some AdSense tech or something (send support at e-mail to try and OK it). At least with an e-mail approval (and make sure it's saved), you can save yourself in the future.

I have definitely advised against it when people have sent me e-mails asking about "AdSense highlighters."

Thx for the replies, I have further read about this myself.

This is a gray area, more pinching towards black - breaking Adsense's TOS.

It's subjective, from site to site. Maybe the lighter, subtle background frames/images will do...but anything beyond that, is borderline grounds for termination. Due to the undue attention clause.

Just not worth the risk for a little eye candy.

...and besides, if you have it there, that's just more arsenal Adsense has to ban you - if they want, for whatever reason.

there is gray area here, but whats not gray area is ones like the cartoon person peeking over the ad. His "nose" is uses as an arrow pointing to the ads, which is totally not allowed.
