I got an email today and it was the first time I received this kind of offer. Thought I would share. Probably a scam of some kind, but I thought, the registrars or someone should do something about this. I don't think it's cool to be selling this information. Am I wrong?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
These offerw have been around for years, and if they were useful, the list compilers would be using them. I'd steer clear of that type of spamming. It can get you into trouble with Google, and a p'd off spam victim is more likely to block you than to buy anything imho.

I think it sucks that this data is being sold but unfortunatley it's not really the Registrars fault......these guys are basically just using scrapers to get all all the data thats available to the public on Whois records. Then sell it to whoever they can find. I would imagine that these folks are probably not even selling "fresh" data.. they probably selling the old data that they have already marketed too and milked as much sales as they could trying to sell web development / SEO / Whatever services and then sell the old data to someone else...

I think WHOIS is public information, and selling this info is not illegal or even unethical ie. a convenience service.

The unethical part is usually the use of this data by spammers....

They all are responsible giving you headache of unwanted call's from the so called Web Designer, Web Hosting provider. I have got surprised 3 days before, as I finished one domain register, after an hour I got call from a Lady telling me my registered domain names & giving me her sales pitch of Web Designing. It's strange but it's true, that someone insider of domain register sold them data at cheap.
