This might be a dumb question. Sorry, but I'm new to all this.

I've had a handful of domains on hand that I bought for 12 bucks apiece on Godaddy brand-spanking new. Estibot says one of them (newbigbang.com) is valued at $900, and the others are a bit less.

So:

1) Will anyone pay for these domains?

2) Can I turn this into a business... buying catchy new domains that are valued high by Estibot.

Thanks in advance.

@ulterios I am beginning to understand. Then the key would be to find those domains somehow. Either with software or educated guess?

Hi, welcome to the forums :)

"Is this a good idea or a REEEALLY bad one? "

newbigbang.com

It's utterly pointless, as when it's sell-able and so we had a new big bang, you wouldn't be selling any domain names :D

Lots of good advice here already, but seriously, spend more time reading, for weeks, before you even buy another domain name. Look at the sales, the names, and prices, many of them, and then you can draw a line through the middle and see what sells and for how much.

There's always exceptions to the rule, odd/weird domain names selling for lots, but some end user somewhere with lots of money bought it, and this is rare.

Try to aim lower at first, lower than $x,xxx, like buying and selling for $xx or $xxx and making a good profit - while still reading. This way, while learning the domain market, you don't lose much if you make a mistake, and will likely make profit which keeps spirits up.

Good luck :)

Oh. Pretty expensive names!

Yah, people buy stuff if they like it. If it sounds good to them; they will buy it regardless of the price. Some of my domain names are I created and some are not been registered. I don't like to used repeated SDN using different extension. If the dot com have already used, then I think SDN should not be used again using different extension.

Yes, you are correct.

Software can be used to a point but many people who have been in this business rely on experience and research. As for myself, I always try to do as much research and reading as possible on any given subject before I register a name. Sometimes I just go with a gut feeling and from what I have seen in the past.

The best thing that you can do is to read and research the field and see what's good and selling. Just be careful and don't get sucked up into registering domains on a whim or current fad, unless you can unload them quickly.

Too many people go out in a rush and register a bunch of names that they won't be able to sell, just because they saw a fad happening. Fad's are just that and they do come to an end, don't be the one that wasted money on a passing fad. Be the one who bought names that have a long term future.

If you get in a rush to register a name and turn around and sell it right away, you will be disappointed most of the time. To make the best money from a name, it takes time, research and marketing.

Also, make sure to listen to people who speak from experience and not to people who speak from speculation. Experience is very valuable in this field.

@james haw I will not buy a single one until I know more, ha ha. So what you are saying is that newbigbang.com is worthless?

@ultarios Yes that makes much sense. I think that's what happened to me.

Seeing Estibot is useless do any of these domains stand out as being worth something... grasping at the last string of hope for my worthless collection...

coloradostylists.com
web-denver.com
denverplanet.com

Those are the ones I have off the top of my head.

In my opinion, just don't expect too much on this pricing or value for your domain names. Even a good domain name still don't have solid value. The buyer will be one to price your item. I have 41 years of solid experienced in buy and sell items. But not in names selling. I joined eBay 6 years ago, so I also observed selling and buying activities. ☺️

Almost nothing is worthless, most things have worth to someone. The key is finding that someone! - Ulterios

I have definitely seen worse registrations, so for someone new to the industry then you have done better than many. I have seen people go out register hundreds of names that might only have value if they were the last domain ever!

As for your list, I see these as the best chances for making money:

apexe.com
improvingyourproperty.com

I like the apexe.com the best. Five letter .com's are selling good lately and this is better than many I have seen around. I like brandables and have had the best luck there and I can see this as being one that falls into that category. Some people prefer keyword domains but I like brands, probably BC I have made more money with them! ;)

You have given me hope! Thank you so, so much! As someone who knows nothing... this means an incredible amount to me. Last question... how does one go about selling it to the right buyer? For the most $$$ possible?

(I forgot to add I also have xbowsplus.com, audiocuts.com, a2data.com, mapleslesson.com and us-web-design.com. Always thought audiocuts.com was a goodie.)

You are most welcome. Feel free to ask me anything any time you want, in a thread or PM.

As for selling it to the right buyer, that usually means research. Depending on what you have that you are trying to sell, you will want to research and try to find good candidates for the name. Trying to find buyers isn't easy. Sometimes you can list them for sale on Sedo, Flippa, GoDaddy auctions, etc., but that means that you are hoping the right buyer looks there at the right time.

If you have a name that you think will be good for a certain type of business, then you can seek them out and get in touch with them. Let them know what you have available, why it would be good for them, what you are seeking as far as price, etc. Just always be nice, polite, professional and try as best as you can to make your message sound nice and well thought out. If you are professional in your approach, then there's a better chance they will respond favorably.

In my experience, the better you present yourself and what you are selling then the better the chance you have for a successful sale. You might be some small time domain seller, but act like you are a professional and not an beginner.

Welcome to Namepros. People advising you here(almost all) have done the same thing when they stepped in domain games and they are making good profits now!. So you are going very normal. I say reading namepros threads (all section, not only newbie) and waiting some more time to spend real dollars in domain names will be worthwhile. regarding estibot; better you ignore that now or use it to check broad match, exact match, availability, related sales only but only superficially. Also avoid flippa appraisals too. Dashes, nTLDS, long names should not be in your basket for now. Later when you understand the ins and outs of damain name game and how stuffs work here you can do whatever you want.
Keep up the spirit. Domaining is so much fun.

There've been offers in the past for apexe.com. Over $300, even, but this was many years ago. Got audiocuts.com early on but nothing was ever done with it; too busy. :)

@arjun29 Thanks for the encouragement and advice! Yes I will avoid Estibot like the plague now.
