There was a recent blog post by Domain Shane, a fellow NamePro member, that brought up the conversation regarding a "negative culture" at NamePros. He goes on to say, " But in 2016 a few individuals started harassing certain posters and creating an us vs them culture at the site. To the point that the negativity at the site drove all the content creators away from the site."

I am not sure if all the content creators has turned away, but I completely agree that some were driven away. Attacking ideas and opinions of fellow domain investors has always been common in blogs and forums, it seems to go with the territory. Domain investor's have passion and there are many different business models to explore, creating for some dynamic conversations. As long as there is attacking instead of debating in the community we do no better to legitimize the true value of internet domains to those outside....What do you think, is there a NEGATIVE CULTURE @ NamePros?

Update: As I was writing this I was informed the other Happy 420 posts were removed. But is that the answer, to censor a "Happy 420" post in the most appropriate thread, on the most appropriate day of the year.

People love to throw the term "censor" and "censorship" around.

If someone reported the posts off-topic (which arguably they are) then that's cleaning up a thread (arguably misguided). Censorship would be if they prevented you from making your very own Happy 4-20 thread somewhere else. Complaining about a single disagreement with a mod hardly relates to a negative culture though.

not because they disagree with the point of view, but because they don't like the person it's coming from.
.

I think @Eric Lyon has stated policy many times and it's not worth rehashing. The question I have for your and others - what needs to happen to stop people from having a persecution complex. The answer is a broader question than this thread deserves, however.

Case in point, I posted "Happy 420..." in the Cannabis Thread, on April 20th, and my post was deleted as not appropriate, however, others who posted the exact same "Happy 420" were left in place.
@DU response is excellent, but I'll add one thing:

Only @coolbreeze's post was reported at the time.

(Sorry in advance for those who have read me stating the following many times already ;))

There are thousands of new posts on NamePros every single day and it is impractical for us to read even a small percentage of them. Staff almost never interacts with any content unless it is reported. That is the case 99% of the time whenever this comes up.

If you post the content in a thread that permits it or create a new thread that does, then those posts won't be removed. We don't choose the purpose of a thread, the first post and the title do.

Please start a new thread to discuss anything unrelated to this thread.

Thanks for understanding,

I think OP wasn't privy to the weird arc NP went thru (I call it, the "alt account arc") where certain individualz were targeted by other members who created many accounts to thwart their domain investing groups and auctions.

Rough times, I honestly didn't think it would end but then Eric came in and cleaned house :tightlyclosedeyes:

Now chat is rid of its villains and for the most part, auctions and investment groups are strictly professional.

I often wonder wat happened to those gangs in the shadows. . . Ik some of htem had their main accts banned, but still -- they were antedelluvian domainers, so it's not like they'll just leave NP for good.

I come here to learn, I just look for threads where I can learn. I ignore the rest.

For me, namepros is the best place to learn about domaining.

Interesting thread...

I can't speak for this place, but I can speak for this type of post being found similar anywhere in life. It happens in every community at the micro and macro level. I see this mentality inside my condo complex, my local government community, in our country, in the office, in every aspect of life. It is a very strong part of our capitalistic mentality and culture. Dominate, divide, conquer. From grade school you are taught how to compete in every aspect of your life...us versus them, winner versus loser, patriarch society, alpha dog, whatever you want to call it, or just all the above. It is why have such a bully problem in every aspect of life. It is part of our DNA sadly. It is why we go to war. Why we hate and love.

How do you overcome? Simple...

As Gandhi would say, "Be the change you wish to see in the world!"

Or as Jesus would say, “You are the light of the world."

So be the light ;)

There are bad apples at NamePros. Some have been removed, thankfully, others remain. That being said I wouldn't go as far as to say NamePros has a negative culture. There are far more positive people around here than negative. The trick is to know how to spot the bad apples and avoid them, although sometimes that's easier said than done.

I agree there are more positive than negative. Although I've tried to emulate the positive by being helpful and polite to the community I'm too often met with negative people both on NP and X. It's draining and am considering stepping away to take a break.

It's not about having a difference of opinion - it's the impoliteness, the attacking, the pomposity, and even in some instances on X, name calling. It's not isolated to NP or X sadly, it pervades all of Social Media. It's why I left FB many years ago. And while I was hopeful for this community to be different, I'm left with similar feelings from years ago. It results in me feeling more drained than refreshed.

Perhaps I'll wake up with a different attitude and will continue on as before. Perhaps not.

Managing negativity in a large community is very difficult, but hopefully we're getting a little better at it with each passing year. 🤞

Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help on NamePros.

We appreciate your contributions to the industry inside and outside of NamePros.
