Unstoppable Domains โ€” Expired Auctions

Is the First Step of Domain Registration Moving Away from Registrar Websites?

More users are now discovering domain names through different interfaces, such as hosting panels, reseller platforms, website builders, agency workflows, and AI-assisted tools. The registrar dashboard still matters for renewals, DNS management, WHOIS/contact updates, transfers, account security, and portfolio control. That part is not going away. But the first domain search may happen somewhere else.

This makes registrar APIs, reseller integrations, and clear domain lifecycle management more important than before. So the real question is not whether registrar dashboards will disappear. They probably will not. The better question is: where will the first domain search happen in the next few years?

For you, would this change your workflow, or do you still prefer starting from a traditional registrar website?

Spaceship declare that any domain availability check in its search box is kind of 'anonymous', in the sense that they don't store and or steel in any way your domain research.

This is what really matter for me, that's it.

Not long time ago, I used an Atom service where you propose a name you want register [ meanwhile is still NOT REGISTERED and available] and, if approved, they can register for you giving you royalty [ a fixed percentage ] on the future sell.

Most of my proposed domain was refused quickly [ in 1 working day ] but one took a while and you know what?

That one was refused as, meanwhile, registered by someone else.

I guess, with no evidence, of course, that it was more than a coincidence and I appreciate that Spaceship specify clearly that they don't mess with your domain research.

If you need to specify that, it's because that's not the rule followed by all the domain game players, IMHO.

That is why I also respect platforms that clearly state how domain search data is handled. Even if most searches are harmless, users need to feel that their research will not be used against them.
