Is the domain push free at 1and1?

I am trying to get the answer tonight, but their office hour is closed. I tried to look through their FAQ section, but cannot find the answer.

My question is - does 1and1 charge the yearly fee for domain transferred to another account within 1and1?

I've never dealt with 1and1, but all I can say is based on what I have read about them, good luck doing anything with your domains there....

Yes the fee to transfer has to be paid even when transferring to another account within 1and1.

You also cannot simply push a domain as you can at most other
Registrars.

If you have more than one package under the same Customer ID, then you can move the domain to a different package without paying the fee UNLESS the domain was one you got for free. Then you must pay.

1and1 does not like to make anything easy.

I agree with you 100%, but the thing is that I reg about 150 domains during my earlier days (last Apr to May :)) of domainning and I did not know that. All I know was it only costed $6 to reg a domain (onmajor extension .com, .net, .us etc).

I just called the technical support (instead of their main line) and they told me there are transfer fee. Here is the info I got from them:

URL:
http://faq.1and1.com/domains/moving_domains_from_one_package_to_another_/2.html

Does it cost anything to move a domain from one package to another?

TLD Internal Transfer Fee
.com $6.99
.net $6.99
.info $6.99
.org $6.99
.name $6.99
.us $6.99
.biz $8.99
.ws $8.99
.cc $19.99
.tv $29.99

:(

Anthony,

I also have several hundred domains at 1and1 under 3 different accounts.

I am not able to combine the accounts without paying a transfer fee so I
keep the accounts as is.

I also took advantage of the $5.88 ,then $5.99 reg prices.

The problem is you cannot bulk manage domains so 1and1 is not a good place to be if you have lots of domains.

!and1 is good if you just have 1 or 2 domains that are important to you.

Name.com has been offering $5.99 domain registration and transfers.

New registrations come with Google Apps so I suspect Google is
subsidizing the domain registrations.

Name.com has a very easy to use Control Panel.

It's easy to bulk manage, get Auth Code, change Name Servers, etc.

You may want to consider starting to move your domains out of 1and1.

If you do, make sure you cancel them at Cancel.1and1.com
or 1and1 may still charge you for renewals even though the domains
are no longer there.

There are other options of course but I mentioned Name.com because
of the $5.99 pricing.

$5.99 is what you had paid at 1and1 and pricing seems important to you.

Same price, better Registrar!

That is a good piece of (advice and) information to know. Get your domains out of there to another registrar, then make sure you cancel the domains at 1and1.

So if I read this right the transfer fee is same as reg fee ? Ridiculous.
Stay away from registrars that sell domains at a loss...

Thanks guys for your input. I just transferred aobut 30 domains out of 1and1 to Godaddy. I now need to check if they are cancelled. They are really making thing very difficult for customers.

I will only keep the ones that I do not intent to sell in there.

1 and bloody 1

Stay well away from them. They are devaluing the numerical DN market by there presence everyday, in my experience and my opinion.

:hi: sdsinc,

Have you regged any domains at Name.com?

Normally I would agree with you but there are some occasions where
selling domains below cost is a legitimate strategy such as a new company wanting to build a customer base.

Name.com is relatively new and a sister site of DomainSite.com.

Every Business has a cost of acquiring a customer.

Name.com is selling domains just a little below cost and as I pointed out
here in this thread they are offering Google Apps with registration.

Google is certainly helping to subsidize the domains.

Risk comes in when you don't have full control of the Control Panel,
cannot Unlock your domains or get the Auth Code, there's no real
Customer Service, etc.

None of that is true with Name.com.

I was suspicious initially but no longer am.

Plus I can Bulk Manage my domains which is important.

Hi tricolorro,

I called and talked to one of the rep at 1and1 and he told me that they do not charge you if the domain is no longer registered with them. Just FYI.

I wouldn't believe anything anybody tells you at 1+1.

The bottom line is this: if you have not cancelled the contract holding the original name registration AND received acknowledgement from 1+1 then you will get charged even if the name has been transferred to another registrar.
1+1 world's no.1 rubbish registrars

Hi Anthony,

There have been changes at 1and1 because of all the customer complaints
and confusion, I suppose.

Still you are required to respond to cancellation emails and it is safer and
best to make sure your domain is cancelled.

Now at the Cancel.1and1.com is a provision to turn off automatic renewal.

That did not exist before.

The choices you were given before confused most.

Best to be safe than sorry.

Thank Patrick and Floatingworld. The status under Cancellation Options in the control panel page for the domains that I transferred to Godaddy two and a half weeks ago has been showing "Request being processed" for days. At this moment, I cannot really do anything.

1and1 is not a good registrar to use. I got issue with them before too. I once registered two domains at 1and1, but their registration process was so slow that it allowed others (who spy on domains that were being checked for availability) to reg the domains before 1and1 did. After 12 hours, I received an email from them saying that the domains were not available. (The domains were available when I reg them.)

After a couple more incidents like that, I decided to use Godaddy for instant registeration instead.

:hi: Anthony,

I am so glad you brought this up.

Everyone should be aware that 1and1 does not do domain registrations in real time.

In can take 24 to 48 hours.

I have also lost quite a number of domains before I discovered this.

When I checked the WhoIs ,I would see that the domain I ordered was registered by someone else 24 hours or more after I placed my order at 1and1.

No where on their site do they tell you this.

To me , this is not excusable.

I haven't used them in over a year but this problem goes back several
years when 1and1 first opened to the US market.

An email to customer service complaining about this registration delay
came back with a sort of snide remark that "that's the way it is and nothing can be done about it".

This registration delay is reason enough to avoid 1and1 like the plague.

Please spread the word.

Patrick

P.S. New math: 1and1 = 0
