Is the .Asia Marketing Department this bad?

This is scary folks,

.ASIA has launched via sunrise, and landrush is only in ONE MONTH. Yet not ONE single HYPE thread!

IMO this shows at least one of the following:

1. Namepros members are being more "conservative" and realizing that not every launch of a tld = $$$

2. The continuing barrage of TLDs being released is making each new land rush, less "speculated".

3. .Asia Marketing Department sucks

4. Other

What do YOU think?

I already know this is going to be a huge flop, from the moment they said they would auction their names. But hey, I may be wrong.

.asia = .eu fail

The registration fees of .Asia are really expensive

not sure, but .asia is long. not to mention its registration fee and renewal might hurt a "little".
sure there is .mobi which is as long as .asia, but .mobi itself is a "question mark" while .asia itself has a lot of rivals already, eg. .jp, .cn, .in, etc.

Truth be told, the Western world is not the primary target group of .asia.

There were only a few threads on .Mobi before the landrush -- those who were girding for battle kept mum on the boards to reduce competetion.

But I am not interested ATM, and I would need a proxy if I were, always a bit dicey.

That's great! We don't need a "hype" thread for a crappy extention that will be a failure IMO.

Actually. I think it be a success. But that's just me and 15,000 (pitiful) other registrants. I'll be very happy to get the one domain I applied for. It's not a surprise they extended the sunrise period. As somebody else said. Failed marketing.

You're not wrong ... the .MOBI was full of MASSIVE amounts of HYPE - including their own false advertisement of the RFP process (to supposedly "level the playing field" in acquiring premium domain names for development purposes), IMHO. This, of course, turned out to be a total CROCK ... and then mTLD begain to systematically auction its premium domain names to the highest bidders at both Traffic and Sedo events! :guilty:

Although all indications were there for its eventual demise, and the "writing was on the wall", etc. ... the very moment they abandoned the RFP process and really got greedy :$: was the time it became a flop (much like the .ASIA will be, just sans the initial hype, hysteria, and delusion (including misguided fans and hypsters (paid or otherwise), IMHO. :yell:

Goodnight .MOBI, goodbye .ASIA. :imho:
Thanks for the post, Rep. added.

:bah:

I'm simply agreeing with the above auction observation ... accordingly, if it has to be described as "bashing" (as part of an agenda to minimize the informed comments and opinions), then, sure, I'm "bashing" GREED (and additionally, in the case of mTLD, false promises)! :imho:

.ASIA is .DOA!

My vote for top flop of 2008 goes to .mobi, followed by .asia :)

It's a bit off topic, yes, but the reasons will be clear ... by April 1st, 2008 :!: :imho:
Crystal clear! :yell:

Happy New Year! :santa:

I wouldn't be surprised for them to extend the landrush again to 1st April ;)

Actually. I see this auctioning of domains in a positive light. I think it's by far the fairest way for two trademark owners or pre-release bidders to capture their domain.

I think it's a pitifully low amount of applications. There should be lots of good domains available. Which might make it a failure to some. However I see it as an opportunity. I think people owning the country level domains would want it in .com and .asia as well.

I'm coming from the perspective as a bottom-feeder. Not a high-roller.
