I would like your opinions if there is any resale value in animal/insect mobi names? Does it depend on the animal/insect?

For example:
Would bees be more valuble than ants because of the honey business? Ant more than spider? Tiger more than lion ? etc.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I doubt it.
Maybe pet names will do good.

dog.mobi, cat.mobi, etc

If they can be used as a business name they would be as valuable as any other. Companies seem to love associating with them. Some are short and easy to remember, which is a key marketing advantage.

For example: Jaguar is most famous as a car company but also is used for computer companies and others.

There would be TM issues for a lot of them, but if you think outside the box you could use the name for an original type of website.

"Bear" would be a good name for a stock market site. I think "Bull" has run it's course, but it will return some day.

"Lion" could be used for a politicians website.

"Ostrich" could be used as a "overpriced home sellers website".

"Dodo", could be used as an Ann Coulter or Bill O"Reilly fan site. They could be extinct if the Dems win in November.

"Gazelle" has a nice ring to it. "Redwingedblackbird" not so much.

I think most animal names are already long gone though.

Have a good one.

agreed and highly brandable and desirable.

think of monster.com, elephant.co.uk, octopus travel etc etc

animals are prob best branding tool , and unforgettable. many established firms using names , plus they are generic

what ones you got?

Well I got one for you :)
It's the name an old elephant bull with big tusks is commonly known by.

TUSKER.mobi is not yet registered.
Look at the various uses it's been put to.

http://www.tusker.biz/
http://www.tusker.org/
http://www.tusker.ie/
http://www.tusker.tv/
http://www.tusker.co.za/

Results 1 - 10 of about 358,000 for "tusker"

There are a few trademarks such as Kenya's beer called TUSKER and a cigar company amongst others.

Then there is also LEGUAN.mobi, still unregistered. A leguan is a reptile much like an iguana. It's also the name of a small island situated in the delta of the Essequibo River on the coast of Guyana, South America.

I have not registered it yet. It has bin on my list for a few weeks now, but the right feeling for registering it keeps coming and going. I think a good way to know if you really want a domain, is to think how would I feel if it was gone today? I am slowly reaching the point where I don’t want it to be gone!

Facts:

+ Very high number of bids for one other TLD.
The website has over 900 hits a day. Could this be the
only reason for the interest in the domain name? I think
this is the main reason why I have not made a quick decision.

+ The websites behind the other TLDs are of high quality.

+ Some TLDs are business sites.

- A low number of ads at Google for this keyword.

I have meerkats.mobi, I thought it was a good reg considering their recent popularity on Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, etc.

I'm definitely a fan of animal domains. They can bring a lot of traffic, and I think will be worth $$$ in the future, even in .mobi.

petgps.mobi

I saw somewhere in the news today where gps tracking is now available for your pet.

I sure hope that pet and animal names will be good in the mobi extension.

As I have over 100 pet names .Mainly dog names.

Good luck.

Only one that science believes in: Degu(dot)mobi
Had a decent Overture so I looked it up - turns out that Degus are starting to be popular pets - they are something like guniea pigs, are very affectionate and easy to care for.

and I also have
faun(dot)mobi = place-spirits (genii) of untamed woodland
That one you have to be very quiet to see....

It's hard to find the well known animal related names in 2008
It wasn't easy to find them in 2006 as well.
I've registered around 10-15 generic animal related names in Jan 2007 and
most of them are plurals like "Flamingos" , "Squirrels", "Pythons" , but still nice names.
Animal domains are always been hot.

Forgot to add, that many of such names are mTLD-Premiums
like Squirrel for example

Last night I just did it! After reading all the posts here I decided to register the animal I had on my list.
It‘s an insect name listed as an English mTLD Premium. I registered it in another language. Thanks again for your Posts.

I think colobis are rare monkeys. I liked the rhyming potential for brand power.
