Is it just me, or is the Press blowing this Mel Gibson DUI and anti-semitic remarks way out of proportion? I mean, if he wasn't a celebrity, this whole thing wouldn't have even made the papers. Now they're talking about it ruining his career?? I mean, I have more sympathy for the fact he suffers from alcoholism and I really hope, given all the pleasure he's given me with his movies, etc., that's it's something he's able to beat. My grandmother was an alcoholic and it's no party for anyone.

It is news because he is a celebrity. Do you really want your kids looking up to this guy?

The media reaction does seem overblown. Under the influence, one can say and do things one later regrets. The way this has been covered, you'd think he accidentally shot a hunting buddy or something j/k :p . Gibson already apologized, and I imagine he'll be doing more later to show how sorry he truly is.

Unfortunately it is the price of fame. Anything you do is scrutinised by the media.

It is the same with things like Kylie Minogue when she was diagnosed with cancer. Ok I have sympathy for her but if it was anyone normal person the media wouldn't batter an eye lid but it ran in the papers for weeks and still there are things that are on tv about it.

I think it's totally rediculous the way they've gone on and on about it. And saying it is going to ruin his career and bringing up Tom Cruise to compare...I thought that very laughable as I don't think Tom Cruise is suffering anything from his words of last year. Gee did it stop me from going to see MI3? Nooooooooooooooo. Will this Mel Gibson faux pas stop me from seeing his movies? Nooooooooooooooo. He has a sickness, he's an alcoholic and he apoligized, what more can he do? What would anyone do? There are millions of people who say stupid things and do stupid things while drunk, including the non-alcoholics, it's just a fact and I think that those media people should take a good look at themselves and their own families. I'm sure they'd find a drunken secret or two lurking in the closet.
