Is Google doing a PR dance?

One of my old forum sites that I have done really nothing with over the last year but clean some spam out of and maybe put up a post now and then just hit the #3 spot for it's keyword search term today. It only has around 20 backlinks very little SEO and no PR. I checked google to see what was happening when I saw a big spike in traffic today and wow, there I was at #3 for a one word search term when everyone else on the page has around PR 5 and anywhere from a few hundred to over ten thousand backlinks. My little forum is next to the heavyweights for the term. :hehe:

Something must be going on with google today because my site just does not belong in the top 10 for that keyword and I am under no illusion it will be there next week. It has the #1 and #2 spot for that keyword + forum and has for sometime, but I never tried to get it in the top 10 for that keyword on it's own.

Maybe Google just wanted to give me a 4th of July present! I hope it stays up there for a day or two. It would be a shame if the only day it got to the top ten was a major holiday when no one is using their computer.

I am sure! There is no way my site can rank in the top 3 let alone the top 10 for my keyword.

There must be a google dance going on. If not I will have the only site with no PR an basically no backlinks ranking on a this keyword search. :hehe:

I sure would love the position and would take advantage of it but in a day or two I will be back down in the SERPs. I just hope this holds long enough to get an idea of what sort of traffic I can expect if I did the SEO efforts.

Humm... wasn't expecting anything right now. My forum just keeps on # 1 for its main keyword and keeps dancing between 10 to 14 for another secondary keyword.

The update I think could be in August. But as leede said Google knows and God Knows. :D

I will surely wait the week with no expectations. If I stay at #3 then I will be one of the lucky ones who got there without the work, but based on who is competing with me I know I won't be there this time next week. I will be lucky to stay there a day or two. No SEO = no rank, and I have not done the SEO!

You have 2 things confused. The PR dance as you say isn't expected until august, since that happens about every 3 months. The search results are updated constantly and you can see that change daily.

You are right but usually a site doesn't go from way, way, down in the searches to the #3 spot as mine did without some sort of effort and I was thinking it might be the result of a PR dance. I know we are not expecting one for about 1-2 months. Maybe it is just an algorithm thing and like most algorithm changes will sort itself out in a bit. Who knows, Google is a hard one to figure out.
