I'm trying to find someone who uses godaddy to host their website. I know that godaddy is good for domain names, but what about website hosting?

I've never used godaddy for hosting and probably never will. I've read many complaints about their hosting which is why I've avoided them. I'm sure with a quick google search you can find plenty of reviews by people that have used them.

Despite all the complaints about GoDaddy hosting, I have been using them for over a year now with about 5 domains & have never had a single problem. Seems easy to set up, fair pricing. I have hosted with some "smaller" hosting companys before and had nothing but downtime problems and they always seemed to charge more.
Also, care to elaborate Jeffrey?
I have found it more convenient to have everything in one place.
I would also be interested to here as to what others say about hosting. Would consider switching also if someone knows of anything better, but as I said I have yet to find any reason not to go with GoDaddy.

you're correct that gd is a good registrar but not a good host
complicated to set them up and there are unresolved issues and many limitations but they're hosting is good if you're just starting.

It Seems everyone is saying Godaddy is a bad host, however I have not seen a shread of thought explaining why. Does anyone care to elaborate?

things i don't like about godaddy shared linux hosting:

- their custom control panel is not as good as cPanel
- their default web stats reporting is useless, and they make you pay extra for better stats
- their .htaccess files only refresh once an hour
- email setup is an entire other control panel ( unlike cPanel )
- their app installer does not have as many good apps as Fantastico ( last time i checked )

That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.

I'm not the thread starter, but thanks -NC-. Was starting to wonder if someone was actually going to put reason behind their suggestions.

Another problem I have with Godaddy is the various restrictions they have such as preventing fopen, etc.

Many standard PHP scripts will not run on their servers.

You can change your own "fopen" by editing the php.ini, just change to "on"
i've used GD for lots of sites, never had any downtime, they can auto install applications for you from their lists. their stats do suck, but I use statcounter anyway. I also use other hosting companies, most are just different control panels, and what you are accustomed to using.
Anyway I am happy with their hosting services.
just my 2 cents

IMHO, again, I'm not a veteran like most here, however I have been with GoDaddy for 2 years and I'm satisfied with it. I guess once the setup is done, I've never been bothered with them. Maybe if you are looking for a bit more control (like others suggested) they 'probably' aren't worth it as others suggested, however I am satisfied with them (then again, I haven't used any others either.)
As for stats program, I was using godaddy. They do charge money and then I started using Google's free web statistics, pretty good I might add (no pun intended) :).
Best of luck.

i use the godaddy hosting through my reseller (Domains at Retail) and have had no problems with it. The interface is different, but once you get used to it, is fine to navigate.

They allow mod rewrite which most think they block on their economy plans. It is true that the .htaccess takes up to 1 hr (could be quicker) to process at worst, the first time you create it. I've seen mine take effect within minutes, and once you have it up once then it refreshes fast.

It does limit some calls, but theres always PHP's Curl function which is better than fopen for what I usually need it for.

It all depends what you want. Have a basic set of pages without PHP functionality or just PHP doing the include() function, then that hosting is more than enough.

If your doing major scripting you may want to move to a VDS, which the OP doesnt look like they need at this time.
