Who knows... it hasn't even been a year. No one can predict the future... End of!

Can an admin close this topic before an argument brews. :td:

NO!!! I predict .EU will be the next big extention here in Europe. It will be the best alternative to .com , along with the ccTLD of your home country, but I think .EU can be really big in the not very distant future...

Give it time to grow, time to get people getting used to .eu, ... I mean, in the States it took a long time before .US got recognised by the majority, but now it's becoming very popular.
I see the same thing happening here in Europe with .EU. It has been around for less than a year, it needs time to grow. But there is certainly a market for it, and I think it can have a great future. Give it time to grow, and we'll see, but I have a good feeling about the future of .EU.

And you never know... what if Europe unites as a state some day? There's been talks about it, not in official political parties maybe, but the idea has been talked about at some places. Imagine how extremely valuable .EU would become once Europe is a country.
But as this is not going to happen in the near future, we talk long distance or even never happening... But even then, when we're just talking about a continent with different countries, I think .EU can become just as popular as country codes such as .CO.UK or .DE

I haven't seen too many sales lately, but then the same could be said about IDNs, Chinese and Indian domains in which I have great confidence....

Still too early to tell.

IMO, it won't become that bad like .name

also, won't become that popular like .de or .co.uk

.EU sits between .INFO and .BIZ for the number of domains currently active.

With the total number of registrations, indexed Google pages, and aftermarket sales we have seen so far, its very pre-mature to even consider .eu as a failure. IMO, any new extension that serves a distinct, localized purpose, has a good chance of success as the Internet continues to grow and sub-specialize so to speak. Its natural and expected evolution for anything getting too big to start sub-dividing itself into distinct areas of interests and identities. .EU is in fact a ccTLD for all practical purposes and ccTLDs in general have a bright future; this is in contrast to the newly announced .Asia that would be a sTLD like .aero and .coop...I'm not necessarily saying that it'd have the same fate as these other sTLDs.

My personal opinion;

I think .EU was extremely over-hyped at the start, it's not turned out to be the amazing, high value domain extension many were saying it would.

I can see it ending up value wise probably just below .US, though no-one can be sure. It's really too early to tell, but that's how I can see it going ;)

What evidence have you got to say that .EU would be under .US? For a start, the transfer fee is more than most .US domains go for.

Secondly, no one will let their .eu domains go yet, it is not cost effective to do so. Prices of domains are what people demand for them, and .EU owners want high prices for their domains. Ask any LLL.eu owners and ask them how much they want for them... then ask a LLL.us owner. There's the difference.

I'm not putting .US down in any way!... I'm simply trying to dis-prove your theory which has no hold on the truth of the matter.

You have to be genious to say that .EU extension is a failure at this point, although it could be true, but there is no evidence of it yet. I have seen many companies using .eu, and imho it needs a few years to be able to tell the real value of .EU.

I voted not so bad. I don't think it's made a huge impact or becaome really popular but, I wouldn't say it's a failure.

The .EU has a been a failure to date, but you never know what the future holds. With the Ovidio "scandal" and other issues, there doesn't seem to be a lot of confidence in the ability of the .EU governing body.

Personally, I think the .EU is junk. People in the EU see themselves as citizens of the respective countries they live in and at the end of the day, a guy in Britain doesn't really care more about some other guy in France, because they are now collectively apart of the EU. If they created a .UN extension, would Americans adopt this as the next greatest thing, because we're a part of the UN? No... We couldn't care less about the UN, because it's just some government agency that has no real bearing on our lives. It's the same with the EU. Maybe theres a small segment of businesses that want to operate in the EU and thus may find it attractive, but they'd be much better off with a .com, because if they are at a level to conduct business in an "international" capacity, then limiting their operations to the EU would just be ridiculous when theres a global market...

Personally I think the .EU extension was just some carried over hype from the formation of the EU, but after everything settles down, people will find that it really can't stand on it's own merit.

Thats my opinion anyway.

Not all Europeans lack a European identity. I for one feel more European than I feel emotionally attached to the small country I was born in (Belgium). And sure most will be the other way round, but the number of people with a European feeling is growing. And sooner or later, even if it would take many years, Europe will be a unified state anyway (and hopefully the world's leading superpower :kickass: )

As for the value of LLL.EU : i own two, and I was wondering how much they'd be worth. I am hesitating to try to sell, because I would hate to sell for 50ยฃ if I could get something way higher.

I'd say .EU will eventually get as high as .US. Not higher, not lower. Just like .EU has little value in America where .US starts to be really accepted and well-known, the opposite will happen in Europe. Once people are used to .EU (won't take that long: many companies operating in the whole of Europe will fancy this extention) the extention will take a huge leap forward. I believe in .EU just like I am very enthousiast about the European Union itself. Go Europe!
