Can someone please bring me up to speed on how .EU domain registration works now.

I realise you are supposed to be either an EU citizen or doing business there, but how does this work in real life now? Can non-eu people meet the requirements somehow?

Is wanting to establish a website business in the EU market enough justification? (I'm Australian)

Secondly, what is the market like for reselling these?

I ran across a very nice drop and am wondering if it's worth grabbing to flip.

I believe you are still meant to be an EU citizen or have business operations in the EU.

Im not 100% on that rule but several registrar can provide a technical address for registration purposes - Normally for a small charge similar to the .asia situation.

As for reseller market - At present very slow on .eu domains - Not seeing many sales.

I have a client that owns several hundreds of great keyword domains that are for sale at very reasonable prices should you be looking to buy a .eu domain.

Let me know!

I hope this helped.

Robbie

Thanks for that info Robfer. Maybe it's not as great as it looks then by sounds.

It is a domain that starts with "der" followed by a really good keyword that is also used in English.

All these versions of it are already regged.

derKEYWORD.com
derKEYWORD.org
derKEYWORD.info
derKEYWORD.ws
derKEYWORD.de
derKEYWORD.at
derKEYWORD.ru
derKEYWORD.co.az
derKEYWORD.com.az
derKEYWORD.com.ua
derKEYWORD.gi
derKEYWORD.sm
derKEYWORD.tm

and a bunch of dashed versions

der-KEYWORD.com
der-KEYWORD.net
der-KEYWORD.org
der-KEYWORD.info
der-KEYWORD.ws
der-KEYWORD.de
der-KEYWORD.ru
der-KEYWORD.co.az
der-KEYWORD.com.az
der-KEYWORD.com.ua
der-KEYWORD.gi
der-KEYWORD.sm
der-KEYWORD.tm

It also has PR4

Think that is enough to make it worth looking at further? Or does that sound no more saleable than your client's portfolio stuff?

I dont think it sounds like it would sell but with pr4 could be worth parking and seeing if revenue comes?

Make sure the PR is current and also not fake.

Basically it involves registering a company in an EU country such as the UK. Then the domain can be registered to that company. The registry for .eu (Eurid) is a cretinously badly run one. It has no real quality checking on the nexus requirement.

Is wanting to establish a website business in the EU market enough justification? (I'm Australian)
If you know anyone in the EU, you could probably get them to register it but if you are serious about the business aspect, then register a limited company.

Secondly, what is the market like for reselling these?
Dire. Nobody really wants .eu in Europe. Most people think of their local ccTLD and then .com - the .eu ccTLD is competing with .biz in the popularity stakes.

I ran across a very nice drop and am wondering if it's worth grabbing to flip.
Be quick about it. :) However I've seen thousands of .eu domains that would be valuable in any decently run TLD drop without being reregistered.
