.tv Is Anyone Actually Selling Their .Tv Names?

This may seem a strange notion...

I think that, considering the many, many, thousands of names that have been sold recently since the changes to Premium names (and now the newer pricing structure), we seem to be seeing only a fraction of these names made available in the aftermarket.

Yes, I see a lot of names 'available' at SEDO, but when you try and buy them the price tends to be a bit higher than most of us are used to paying.

Looking at my own names, other than a little mini-auction, I have made a conscious decision not to 'actively' sell, rather to develop, renew, and deal with buyer enquiries - a policy that has very quickly paid its own way.

On the buying front, I actually thought the place would be awash with good names going cheap, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Yet this is so counter-intuitive to what should be happening.

If I get in touch directly the price expectations of sellers has certainly edged up quite a few notches. A final offer of a few hundred on a fair to good name always used to do the trick - but seems these days to be just the start of a 'proper' negotiation.

Is this the new world of .TV or am I in a bubble? I would appreciate the views of others as to what they are seeing?

Don't be shy. If you are seeing things differently, or the same, or even more rosy, please let us know.

Are we really at a point where some people are stopping selling their good names because they fear losing better money in the future rather than gaining a half-decent ROI today?

This is a great thread.
Honestly I think that at the moment we are all a little bit confused about the value of some domains.
For example i submitted Ecommerce .tv to the Sedo online retail auction with a 1500€ (1800$) reserve and I honestly don't know what to expect.
I wouldn't be surprised if it will reach XX,XXX but at the same time I will not be surpised if it will be near the reserve.
I watched the last GreatDomains auction with great interest and in last minutes I was in front of my PC refreshing the page and celebrating for every bid on Wifi.tv etc like if they were my domains...
I think that at the moment the fear to sell a domain for low X,XXX and see it resold in a year for mid XX,XXX is in every .tv beliver mind.

Today the Sedo retail auction is starting and there are many .tv's in there. It's a big step, 6 months ago you could not even get a .tv in there auction. Let's see what happens and how many sell. Personally, I have 6 in there and I have no idea what will happen.

Thanks, Jim

Like I was saying in the other thread there are 14 .tv domains.
I think it's a great success for the extension.
Now let's cross our fingers and wait for big sale!!

Actually, no. For some, perhaps only a very, very few, there is no "right price" and nothing short of a gun to the head will ever get them to sell. Even then the question of whether its loaded or the holder has the guts might come to mind.

Is anyone actually selling their .tv domains?

I'm not selling, but I am buying in the $x,xxx range.

I have recently purchased 4 premium .tv domains from sedo, so yes, someone out there is purchasing .tv domains and yes someone is selling their .tv domains.

In my humble opinion I believe in 10 years .tv will be worth more than .com

...crossing fingers better for survival of species than crossing legs...at least at this point in time!

I've got 3 really good names I've been trying to push fairly hard, but no offers yet. I think they are pretty doggone good domains, too:

Satellite TV - Make My Day.
Instructor tv - $4K
Appetizer TV - $2.5K

I'm kind of surprised no one has really looked at those last two yet, those are quality keywords, especially in the context of a .TV extension. Both are standard reg fee domains.

I am content to hold onto them if I have to, and develop them further than they already are, but the whole idea behind domaining is making a return on your investment, then moving on. At some point, you need to show a profit!

Names have been selling and if you have a reasonable price I think you can make sales. I have moved some names for people that asked me to broker names. I did not take a commission because the sales were in the $250 to $500 range but that's fine it got them some money. Somehow some people think making 10 or 20 times your money is not a good enough return, but when I ask throughout their life how many times have they made 10 times their money ? The answer is 0. The sales came about because I know a few end users that will buy names, they are not "THEE" end user for the name that will pay $20,000 but they will pay $200 to $3000 for names they like.

I see a lot of pricing that imo is really out of whack or looking for the once in a lifetime end user.

Tom I love Satellite and found you one offer like I told you that was the same as you got from someone else, way too low for the name. Appetizer I don't see as an x,xxx name. No disrespect, I just have a different opinion and see the name in the $300 to $700 range. It is a hard name to find a specific end user. I also think people can come up with cool sounding brand names for food. I would also think that you know how to develop so you could make more than $2500 off the name over time. Again IMO

Even though I sold 10 .tv names in the last 6 weeks, I did take a loss on 4 of them but got rid of the premium renewals on those 4. However, even so, I made a good ROI after all said and done because of a couple sales.

It really is a buyers market right now and not a seller's market IMO. Actually, it kind of feels like 2001 again for those who were around. People could not sell and the small % that were buying good names really made out about 3-4 years later when market picked up. Therefore, if you have good .tv names that are not legacy premium, be patient and hold tight. However, if you have good .tv names and are legacy premium than you need to make a decision to sell and take a loss if you have to, depending on your situation.

Thanks, Jim

Oh I know Tom and thank you. I just really believe that you have talent and could make more with development than $2500.

I think there are names that fall into different categories. There are names you identify with and see the development and business plan, those names are best to develop yourself imo. They usually have plenty of comparable names for reg fee. TreeByRiver did a great job with Savory.tv. IMO it fits for her idea, if she went to reg and resell I would not see a lot of value, someone could find another name for reg fee and not pay x,xxx.

The other type of name is the name you reg because you know you can sell, LCD.tv,Sex.tv.Fight.tv,Hot.tv,Coffee.tv. Those names when regging you know that you can find plenty of buyers just need to find the right price.

I don't see it as being 2001 for .tv. Plenty of names are selling more than in any other year. If people are not selling anything they need to look at their asking price and the quality of the name. Again IMO

As a dot TV domain investor I believe it's a buyers Market for .tv because I have gotten some good deals. Hopefully in 5 to 7 years it will be a sellers market, because that is when I hope to sell these investments. Moreover, I intend to develop every domain name I purchase with the hopes of getting some level search engine placement and traffic.
