Is a Catchy .IT Worth it?

I have $45 to spend on domains. I was going to buy 5 .coms or .nets, but then thought of a really catchy phrase that would go along with the .it extension.

Unfortunately, a $50 is a hefty price to pay for a domain. I want to make sure my investment will be worthwhile.

From past experience, do catchy .ITs, that make up an English phrase with the word "it" tend to be valuable?

If you found a niche English keyword that went along with .IT and the name was available, would you register it?

Are you talking about a "catchy" Italian phrase or English phrase?

I'm talking about an English phrase. Sorry, I should have specified that in my post.

I would personally buy the .com's

From what I've found, traffic & sales wise ccTLD's are always much better when in the native language of the extension. The exception would be english adult terms, those seem to occasionally do ok traffic wise.

Good question,

It all depends on how much you really want to market the .it. For example, I would take buy.it or sell.it or trade.it or market.it over any major TLD.

I don't know about those.. Those are GREAT domains in any TLD. If the gTLD's were taken and the .it made sense, I'd go for .it. ;)

If you bought your .it from EuroDNS.com, you could afford two .coms with the change.
I'd do that, especially if it's as catchy as you say...

If the name is only $36, I'll probably buy it.

However, this concerns me:
Euro DNS said:
"If you are not an EU Citizen or Company with EU Address, EuroDNS could become the domain holder and send you a certificate of ownership.
Once the domain is registered it will be allocated to your EuroDNS account and you will gain full access to the domain.
EuroDNS reserve the right to cancel this .IT domain immediately, should any of the terms and conditions in relation to this TLD be broken."

How can I know Euro DNS won't just steal my domain? I am an American citizen and therefore can't physically own the name. Do I lose the rights to sell it if I'm not Italian?

You have full rights to it and can do anything with it within their control panel so you should be able to transfer/push it. The "certificate of ownership" should be enough.

If you don't let them have their WHOIS info, you are violating the .it TOS and that could be worse for you.

I'm lucky enough to be an EU citizen ;) so have not had to do this with a .it, so can't really comment. I do suppose this is the chance you'd take with any registrar offering to do this for foreigners; I will shortly be registering a .sk which requires a Slovak presence and will have no qualms about using EuroDNS. I'm sure EuroDNS is one of the more trustworthy registrars- if not someone will correct me soon...
