Hey ~
Ok, so last time we had IRC (provided by the infamous Benjamin), it wasn't so good, right? Arguements, all the rest. Although I really do like chatting with NamePros users, I hate Java chats. Java is too slow and bulky to keep it open 30 minutes, let alone all day. You can't idle using Java, I think there needs to be an alternative, which is where IRC comes back into play.
I currently have a (small) IRC network (irc.pimps.bz) for PurePimps (and other pimp games not owned by me such as Pimpkane and TruPimps). Now, I'd be more than happy to set up another for NamePros on a different IP (we could have irc.namepros.com if RJ will setup an A record should we go for this idea). We can still keep a Java chat (example) but it would also be accessible by using an IRC client (such as mirc, xchat, hydra or bitchx). I would also type up a guide on all the basics from registering your nick so no one can use it to creating your own channel on the network. Finally, I'd happily give RJ and the gang network administrative access to the ircd and channel, server access - and would be happy to have other people working along side in the IRC as Ops, Hops...etc...
I really do want to see the chat pick up in activity, and I think this is a good way to do it. Right now no one goes in the current one we have (or from what I have noticed, I do occasionally pop in but there's no one there). The chat should be a great resource for a community of this size. I, for one, would idle in it 24x7.
But, it's not upto me - What do you think? %%- %%- Would you prefer an IRC chat (with the Java alternative at the same time)? What does RJ and the gang think about it?
Scott. :notme:
