.mobi iPhones.mobi Sedo Auction

Hello, i have recently added my domain iPhones.mobi up for auction at sedo which i feel is the right time to do it with all the hype about iPhones at the moment and the extension really fits the name.

There hasnt really been much to talk about in the way of .mobi domains in the past month or so everything has been very quite so i thought i might try and use this to start some convosation withing the domain market. Hopefully i can get a decent price and once again have .mobi in the spot light, even more so now as it would help boost awareness of the .mobi domain within iPhone users. (hopefully)

With the introduction of the Apple iPhone i believe it will only stenghen the market of .mobi domains as mentioned Apple has done a poor job of creating a browser to suit normal sites and once again it will be up to .mobi owners to develop sites suitable for mobile owners to access the internet. Apple has really been pushing the idea of the internet on the phone so hopefully this will convert more mobile phone users to search the net from their handheld device increasing views and revenue for mobile based site owners. So there will be a big market to capitalize on and the earlier you get in the better.

Please dont take this post the wrong way im not trying to push my name just to get a better price but i thought it would be a suitable topic to get some discussion going, hopefully if the big price does come then more exposure .mobi domains will get and the iPhone market is a target audience which will certainly benefit the extension.

This could add another element to the IPhone lawsuit game.

It is an interesting saga:

Cisco had a TM on IPhone in the US and Canada but let them expire in 2003.

Apple registered a TM in 2004.

A small Canadian company named Comwave opposed the Canadian TM registration claiming "prior use". A couple of months later, and again in 2007, they filed for their own TM. A check of archive.org shows that Comwave first started advertising their IPhone services on June 8, 2004 predating Apple's TM by a couple of months.

Comwave sent letters from their lawyers to Apple and Cisco to refrain from infringing on their TM. Cisco has filed a lawsuit against Apple and is considering a lawsuit against Comwave. Apple has no comment.

The plot thickens with Comwave filing a lawsuit, in Canada, against Rogers Communications for failing to change phone numbers so Comwave could sell voip services. Rogers claims they have no contractual obligations to Comwave. Rogers is reported to be the future IPhone carrier for Apple.

And now along comes IPhones.mobi

I think IPhones.mobi is the least of their worries. As you point out, there are other major issues going on with this name.

I regged "iPhoneReviews.mobi" late last month.

As far as we heard and seen Apple if they feel .mobi is no threat wont have an issues with this domain. Personally if they wish to send me a lawsuit then it would only help market .mobi domains which is what im currently trying to do. Id rather have the .mobi extension around the net with the article on how Apple see's .mobi as a threat and needed to try and claim the domain to help indorce their product. Thats worth a lot more than the few hundred dollars ill getfrom the name!

I get your point, BUT, I think the name will go for much more than a few hundred. Try a few thousand, or more. Let us know what it sells for.

Hopefully it will go for more than a hundred, like i said before the more high sale .mobi domains the better for the extension. But otherwise if Apple do seem to have an issue the exposure for the extension will be even greater. Either way ill be a happy domainer

I paid to have i-Phone.mobi showcased and they cancelled that saying that it might be a TM violation.

I was thinking about putting mine up for auction @ ebay.

Yeah, just hoping sedo doesnt take it off because of TM issues.

If they do, ask them to provide you proof of who really owns the term "iphone" and see what they say. Apple isn't the first to use it, that I do know.
