What I got from that is broadband on the networks is what drives their technology. Which imho is true for the US market as well. We need better broadband..then technology will follow. People think it's the small screen that's the problem but it's not. It's technology.

Gah, I hate video news, I hate waiting :P I'd rather read it myself than have to listen to the people talk so slowly.

I watched anyways :P It is interesting that Japan has such good technology--but it's not really Apple's fault that they wont like the iPhone. In the US, we have so many laws regulating things that stuff tends to get slowed down for years.

Even here in the Philippines, GSM technology or text messaging has been around since the mid 90s. But the uses other than calling or texting has been slow because most people doesnt have money to trade using the mobile phone, buy tickets, foods etc.

I have not tried buying items using my cellphone, though some people here are doing it already. The ability to purchase using the cellphone started 2 to 4 years ago.

that's why i just bought a good pocket pc instead of a multi functional cell phone... the networks don't support the technology...

I'm pretty sure the Japan version will be a lot smaller. It looks pretty big for the average young girls that would be the target users.

I agree completely with Wesley. I think the main issue is that our current lawmakers are ignorant about technology, so they spend years trying to figure out what it is, how to regulate it using outdated standards and then finally after many years pass, millions of dollars are spent in lobbying and someone finally gets a clue, then it's implemented properly. As long as we continue to allow technologically ignorant lawmakers to regulate it, our technology will always be behind a country whose leaders embrace technology.

Iphone is stylish but i still love the windows mobile PDAs. Its the geeks choice and there are many compatible applications and games. (Japan rocks when it comes to technology/High speed internet)

This reminds me of a documentary I saw recently that looked into the lack of early adaptation of cellphones in the US in the late 70โ€™s and early 80โ€™s.

Best wishes,
Kimmy

I saw this news story--quite interseting. I've read that another reason they are so advanced in Japan, is that their nation is so small that upgrading the equipment is so much cheaper and happens so much faster than in the US.

North America is just perochial about everything.... I mean GSM? really..? Why on earth would you want to use your mobile outside of the US? :cy:

(FYI Canada is worse - Bell mobility has one GSM phone!)

The arguement about upgrading infrastructure is crap... if the market is there then it will pay.... and yeah Japan is a small nation :D

Haha yep just see how USA other counteries have been by using technology and other stuff that comes from the usa...

I think if USA wanted to have the technology out to the people today they could but it`s more money to earn when they delay the prosess and sell more stuff that need`s to be uppgraded...

But that`s just me
