INVision bOARD vs vBulletin

I NOTICED that most forums
that i visited SO FAR use seems
either the vBulletin or the INVISION power Board.

are these two different animals of the same nature
or is it JUST their NAMES?
if they are totally different
I would to get a good thread goiing to describe their merits.
it would be helpful to me as i am mighty interest in forums.

what is the price/value like?
which easier to use for a newbie? to install? to modify?
easier to navigate
easier to manage?
potential for expansion, lots of add-ons?
more comples functions for the experienced?
easy to customise/modify?

Yeah, I would really be interrested to get people opinion on which BB script is the best..

There's also phpBB but I think it's far from the quality of Invision or vBulletin

I have never used Vbulletin, but i have to say that invision is one of the best out there. If I have the money, i will definitely opt for Vbulletin over invision, as it has some features i really want.

I personally do not like Invision because to login to admin panel you have to use the same IP and I have AOL so it doesn't and I can't access it. I like phpBB
vB is the best paid board

What is better about Invision than phpBB? phpBB is much more widely used and has a much better support system. I am using phpBB now and like it very well. Haven't tried Invision. Both are free so they are obviouisly great bargains. VB is fairly expensive. I've seen nothing missing from my free phpBB board that would make me pay for a VB license.

The difference is that vBulletin has a lot of cool features. If you are good at coding then invision or phpbb would and can easily be modified to fit your needs. Its really up to you. That is my honest opinion.

I have been an admin on serveral Invison boards and several vB boards, i even have an owned lisence for vB .

if your going for something free then of course you'd go with IPB, but in my opinion the best is vB

why you ask?

Templates are easier to make and code with vB, IPB boards lack the ease to modify and see your modifications in real time as easy as vB.
vB has a very active coding team behind it (the wonderful coders of the project and also the mod teams and hackers at vB.org (i have helped serveral of the people come out with hacks))
vB 3 (still in beta) is incredible it embeds paypal ipn in if you want to have paid forums ect, great feature in my opinion. And also makes the ease of use even more.

there is also XMB to consider.. by far not the best board.. but when it comes to setting up colors/top image it's quite nice. Plenty of "hacks" to install to make it nice.

But I still think phpBB is the best for the reason I stated above.. IPB does not let me login to admin panel from AOL and IE messes up my computer
