Hi all,

As you probably know, both Jen Sale and I finished up at Fabulous.com late February. We're excited to announce we've teamed up with fellow Fabulous.com alumni Bill Vanderent, veteran Domain Professional Adam Strong and respected Domain Attorney Paul Keating on our new project Domain Guardians.

The primary service we're bringing to the market is Domain Legacy, a domain portfolio estate planning service. A question many in the industry have asked is, "When you die, what will happen to your domains?" This has gone unanswered, until now.

Other services we will be offering include:

  • Domain Registrations
  • Domain Management
  • Domain Brokerage
  • Domain Recovery

If you have any questions or want more information, feel free to reach us on hello AT domainguardians DOT com

We look forward to working with you all.

Cheers,

Mike

This is extremely important for domainers & business owners to pay attention to.

Survivorship & Estate Planning should be on everyone's priority list. I'm glad there are more players entering this space targeting regular domainers VS only large corps/players.

Greater awareness is important. I began my planning about 2 years ago and I recommend others look into this sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the support and kind works guys.

We're all very excited and passionate about providing the Legacy solution to domain professionals. It's a subject that has been talked about a lot in the past, however, up until now, there has been no dedicated solution aimed at the domain market. We're here to fill that void! :D

@MrRhee - you're 100% right, however, rather than look, it's something people should really ACT upon, and sooner rather than later. When I was working at Fabulous.com, I saw first hand a case where a service like Domain Guardians would have been beneficial for a particular individual, especially when they were experiencing so much hurt and pain. I personally helped them recover stolen domains and offer assistance to get the portfolio back and monetizing as it was previously.

In all my time at Fabulous (and possibly my life so far), that was the most rewarding experience to have gone through. And I feel grateful that the relationships, knowledge and experience I have gained over the years allowed me to do this for the particular customer.

This was one of the primary driving forces for me wanting to be involved in this project.

@Dave Zan - it's very early days of this new project however an affiliate program is something we definitely have on the table to discuss further down the track. Be sure to keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook for major announcements.

@vc - thanks for the note and pointing that out. I think an important thing to make people aware of is the team behind Domain Guardians has over 50 years of domain specific industry knowledge and experience. Does your family rely solely on the revenue generated form your domain portfolio? When you are no longer able to manage your domain business, will they know how to continue running it?

This is where Domain Guardians can really help. Based on your instructions, we can either liquidate or continue managing the portfolio as is. If you would prefer a different strategy, we are more than happy to accommodate your wishes. Needless to say, your family and domains will be left in more than capable hands.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike

You mention that 1 of the services is catering for the eventuality that the domain owner dies. How are you going to manage this? Like any assets that somebody has these are transferred to the next of kin (usually a wife/husband then the kids). If there is a will of course this can be someone completely different.

How is your company going to keep track on who should be taking ownership of the domains once the owner does pass away? Also if they told you the domain should go to X and the will states the assets should go to Y how are you going to reconcile this?

Not criticising the service at all just interested to know the ins and outs of the service.

Hey Peter,

Sorry for the delay, I needed to square a few things off with our Legal team before posting my reply.

In response to your concerns, our lawyers will cover this and many other scenarios as part of the initial consultation process when a customer signs up to our service.

It sounds like what you are describing is the job of an executor and probate court. In most cases we will not be executors of an estate. If you have a Domain Legacy plan, your will would include information telling your executor and the court who inherits your domains. If we're your registrar (like any registrar) the court would tell us who to put the names ownership under.

Our role in this situation involves managing those domains for the heir once they've taken ownership, either liquidating the assets or continuing with a management plan. We're here to aid the beneficiaries in managing the portfolio when there is no longer someone to do that task.

Legacy services can also apply to situations where you are still living and can no longer perform the tasks of managing your assets or maybe no longer want to manage the portfolio yourself.

I hope that helps clarify things. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers,

Mike
