any opinions - what should expect in parking revenue for an internet related domain with 7000 a month visits..?

I would say around $175 to $200/month

'bout right... I had one with around 6500 uniques and it made around $200 per month. Mine was pure type-in though. You'll have to consider that the traffic will die down eventually if it is completely from history/linkpop.

Thanks - I had conservatively estimated around $120/mo.

6/mo x120 = is $720

12/mo x 120 = $1440

So by pure accident I had actually offered 777 asking was 1500...and was countered 1100. now its up to me. Havent spent thins kinda money on a domain before - but could really use 7K visitors of this nature.

Should I get it.

Counter.

or forgettaboutit...

Make sure you are positive it is not one of those "Pump & Dump" domains before you buy it :) I would be suspiciouse - If is really making them anywhere near $200 per month then why would they sell at that price ??
(have they shown you any kind of proof of what it is currently making ? )

$10 reg per year reg fees makes $2400 - mmmm, I would be keeping it if it did

Also consider if it is worth anywhere near that if it had NO traffic.

JMO :) good luck

The domain is not a very good name. I would pay much more than 50 for it is even. So that wont increase my desire.

the traffic is solid. I have checked the "way back machine" www.archive.org and also searched for its links online.

Gotta do some serious background checking before paying this kind of money. The reason the person is not asking more is that it is not very successfully parked. I think the person could easily double of triple his income and then he wouldnt sell for ca. 8 x monthly. or maybe he would. The traffic could start dying down. But its unlikely - it has been a site between 2000-and 2005. Maximimum was 28 pages...

It would have to be either a excellent generic domain or have a serious amount of incoming links to get 7 K traffic per month.

I have a couple of domains one @ 5000 and one @ 8,000 incoming links to them and the most traffic they get is about 200 per month - max was about 400.

Have you checked in www.urltrends.com to see how many links it has ? It would have to have thousands IMO to get that kind of traffic.

Getting traffic is one part only - converting it to paying clicks is what counts, maybe this is the reason it is for sale ??

That's not exactly true... I registered q**x.org right after it dropped around a year ago. It had maybe 15-20 backlinks. It was getting 2500+ uniques a day from day 1 until over 6 months later. The reason it received so much traffic is that is was a TGP that had several hundred pages indexed by 3 or 4 major search engines (Google wasn't one of them BTW). The traffic was solid and the domain made over $700 until traffic finally died down.

You still need to be careful. I've paid for "high traffic" domains before and then the traffic suddenly dies down right after I get the domain.

I could make any one of my domains appear to be high traffic by linking some of my high traffic domains to it. If a domain already has quite a few backlinks, it is difficult (or at least tedious) to pick out which backlinks send the most traffic to it.

Archive.org is a great tool for researching history but just because the domain has a long history doesn't mean it gets traffic. Make sure you get proof of traffic history from the seller (AKA screenshots). If he can provide that, then the traffic is most likely solid as it seems.

One last thing... since you mentioned that the domain keyword is not very good and traffic comes only from linkpop, traffic WILL die down in time if you only park the domain for PPC. The only way to avoid this is to develop a site and try to target the content based on current traffic.

Good luck with it!

wow this is great - I have to say - this forum is just so incredible.

I thought I had done my due diligence - but now I am questioning. Yes I had done achive and url trends and looked fine to me. But I think it only showed 40 links. (powerful links maybe..?)

The domain is not great - keyword is fine. - just what it needs to be.

I have to think it over. The good thing is that I "found" the domain and I contacted seller. It is not somebody who was pushing a high traffic domain for a fast sale.

I would agree with countering with 900.

SOme of the links are power links like Business.com - but I guess those expire after the paid duration...

I will probably make a counter counter offer at around 950. In any event I will post both the domain and the result once I decide.

as promised - I would let you the outcome. Thanks for the feedback and help in the decisions etc. Got it today for $1K. Now I am too embarrassed to reveal the name. I hope it will be all good and generate the income I expected. The plan is to park it for a while and then do site around the subject gaining instant good PR rank etc.

I know the suspense must just kill you :) - I'll be back.
