Anyway, it does give you a brief insight into how Internic worked in those early days.. I myself had a few correspondences with them back then and as you can guess missed the odd opportunity as a result of what I/we all know now about the future value of namespace..
But hey ho, in those days, I was at University and it was a case of "do I spend $50 on domain names, or do I go out drinking with the hunnies on my course.....?" - you can guess the option I took....
