In the last 24 hours 168,411 .info names have dropped. See:

http://www.whois.sc/internet-statistics/

A few months ago .info was ahead of .org in numbers of names registered. Up until about two weeks ago .info was about 50,000 behind .org. Now .info has over 1.1 million fewer registered names than .org.

I'm finding that really surprising. I thought .info names were continueing to rise in numbers. Thanks for that.

This is about the time when the free .info domains registered during the frenzy are beginning to expire. While the top names have been renewed, most of the crap is being left to drop resulting in a lower number of active .info domains.

Looks like a great promotion to let people register 25 free domains, again! ;)

It seems like domainsite lost nearly 100,000 names and sipence lost nearly 800,000 names in the past few days. I would suspect these were all .info's

I'm not sure .Info's will gain their numbers back immediately - As a lot of the Free Regs were simply wasted on junk domains to begin with. But I do urge folks to start searching through them pretty seriously as there are some Gems in the rough dropping everyday as far as pure profit goes. If you have any connections at all - you can Reg a .info and get a small hosting account for it for 5$ or so for the entire year ... Any half way decent category/keyword can earn that back in no time ;) - If you were able to sell Anchor Text links on the site for 10np$ - you could still profit easily ....

The last word I received from one of my resellers is that the cheap .Info prices should remain throughout the end of the Year - Don't let it slip by you ~

I have also heard that Enom and their Reg Format users are dropping them in random order - No real set time or date ~ :o

.infos, if choosen wisely, are one of the best investments, as all4cost noted. At about $1.99 a piece, you could easily make the investment back every 4 or 5 days (including hosting costs) if it's a good keyword or if you develop it to provide relevant info. Worst case scenario you can make back 10x your investment within a year.

I predict that in 2006 that .info prices will soar...

I think the decline is due to free info's either being sold off or renewed. I know I see a lot of aftermarket sales of .info. Also lots of good info have been already registered.
