Hey Guys,
I've been reading this forum for a while, but here's my first post.

How's everyone's luck been with .info domains lately? I'm finding a good amount of dictionary words for this extension available and ready for backorder.

I've been designing websites for over 9 years, I started when I was back in high school. I tend to develop most of my sites ad put ads up on them and I'm just now getting into selling premium/desired domain names.

Would it be wise to register an .info and expect as much type in traffic and search engine traffic as I would normally get from a .com? If you don't think I would get enough traffic, how difficult is it to sell a .info? :-/

Thanks!

Hi and welcome..

 Well maybe I will get shot down here but hey I dont mind..

I personally love .infos *IF* and its a big if ... the name actually fits the extention. Im not into brandables with this ext but strong one words, geos, reference names etc I think fit very well. I think the very long promo of .infos hurt it in some ways but I do think given a chance it could grow. Its not and never will be in the same league as a .com but do feel it has its own place.

Good luck

Thanks Mellowmasher!

It's a synonym of the word "ask", has a $720 appraisal on estibot reporting over 26,000 totalsearches a month. I think I'll add this to my list.

Ha ha, I think I gave enough clues for someone to find the name I'm asking about, but oh well :)

Thanks again!

We bought a LOT of .infos last year. Most of them are parked and get some traffic, but most are not getting any clicks so we are starting to let them expire if they can pay the rent. I've tried to sell some here at namepros for cheap, and even give some away and didn't have any luck.

For site development I think they can be as good as anything, but for domain value I think they are pretty low because the domains were sold for $0.99 they don't have a good reputation, in general here in the US. The same thing is happening with .cn domains now because you can get them for between $0.25 and $0.99.

Since you can design sites, I would try to get better quality domains cheaply if you can and then sell site/domain packages. I would LOVE to partner with someone like you with the domains I have, where you provide the site and I provide the domain and we split the sales, or each take a percentage based on the value of what we provide.

You express exactly my opinion - I am a big fan of .info, bought several dozens of them at the time of landrush (and still keep 90 percent of them), however it is true that it has not developed at this point as I had expected.

A pity, since I believe it is in itself a very good extension. As you rightly write, if the name actually fits the extension, I think it is appropriate. And also I see real prospects for new/information oriented websites, integrating the extension in their very name.

Thanks Niels!
Yea I was thinking that the .info's didn't have the same type in traffic or domain value as a .com.

As for a partnership, that would be a perfect thing to get into. You can PM me if you'd like and let me know what type of sites you are looking to develop. I can then in turn send you some designs that relate to the domain(s) in question. Let me know.

Thanks!

.infos are extremely hard to resell as you can register them very cheaply, so the market is full of .infos. Also .infos are not as highly looked upon as .coms. No, you won't get much type in traffic from .infos
